The Marketplace Morning Report is one of the most dynamic morning shows in public radio, reaching more than 11 million listeners on more than 800 public radio stations around the country.
We are looking for an Assistant Producer to help with the production of this show. The Assistant Producer will be tasked with scheduling, editing, writing, directing, and producing segments and material for the program. They will also initiate story and segment ideas and concepts, and they will participate in all creative aspects of the program. The Assistant Producer is responsible for writing and editing on-air copy and helping plan future news coverage including helping plan future series and special themed programs. They may spend up to 70% of their time on overnight work as a director. When working as the Director, the Assistant Producer gets to pick the music bridges that prompt listeners to write and ask, “What was that song you played this morning?” The Assistant Producer will fill in for and assist other Marketplace programs as needed and will work with contract producers and freelancers as assigned. They will work closely with the web producer to produce and publish content on Marketplace.org and other online outlets.
Expected Range: $28.12 - $33.75/hour. The exact salary is determined by experience, geographical location, and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure, and internal equity.
Location: New York or East Coast preferred.

Your Role:
- Direct broadcasts.
- Write promos and on-air copy.
- Edit the daily market segment.
- Work under tight deadlines and with quick turnarounds.
- Pitch, book, produce, and edit host interviews.
- Book and prep guests quickly and in breaking news situations.
- Produce elements for ongoing Marketplace Morning Report segments.
- Produce digital content on Marketplace’s social media and digital platforms.
- Help foster a creative and productive work environment.
- Fill in for other positions at Marketplace, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
- One or more years of radio production, news gathering, editorial, or related professional experience.
- Experience in editing digital audio, preferably Adobe Audition.
- Experience in multi-media production.
