The Communication Specialist is responsible for communicating the services provided by all departments in Auxiliary Services across a variety of platforms to the university and the surrounding communities. This role requires a detail-oriented collaborator with the ability to meet deadlines, design and create visual elements, and assist in the execution of marketing strategies of the departments. The specialist operates as a creative problem solver and is able to develop projects from concept through production. This role plays a critical support function to the Director to maintain the highest quality visual communications for the Auxiliary Services departments that is consistent with the University standards.
Required Education
- College graduate or equivalent experience.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 2 years in graphic design
- Preferred one year of marketing experience
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
- Responsible for coordinating the planning, design, and implementation of all Auxiliary Services marketing campaigns and public relations materials, both digital and printed, in collaboration with the Auxiliary Services team leaders.
- Maintains websites for Auxiliary Services’ entities and partners with Strategic Communications and Engagement department to ensure correct information is displayed on APU web pages.
- Coordinates and organizes photoshoots for Auxiliary Services entities.
- Responsible for hiring and supervision of student employees.
- Responsible for the maintenance and interaction of social media sites: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
- Creates layouts and designs, advertising, and other published materials in print and online.
- Evaluate and monitor campaign performance on an ongoing basis by analyzing key metrics and creating comprehensive reports.
- Assists Director with relationships with internal customers and external vendors (i.e., Grubhub and Bon Appetit) to ensure high-quality and timely execution of marketing programs.
- Conduct research to analyze competitive industry landscape, market trends and customer behavior, and prepare reports by collecting, summarizing, and analyzing data.
- Support Director and Auxiliary team leaders in establishing and evaluating a marketing strategy and plan by analyzing and updating marketing calendars and organizing and planning promotional presentations.
- Assists in the branding of all Auxiliary Services’ entities.
- Provides day-to-day graphic needs for all Auxiliary Services’ entities.
- Creates innovative designs that have high visual impact and communicate appropriate messages combined with written and visual elements.
- Reviews final layouts and suggests improvements if required.
- Contributes to group discussions and critiques with other team members.
- Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.
- Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
- Attends conferences and workshops as assigned.
- Maintains compliance with APU mission, vision, positional statements, and other policies and procedures.
- Required to work varied work schedules to include evenings, weekends, and holidays in support of operational needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Compensation
- Grade 9: $23.58 to $30.65 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
