Senior Medical Editor Job Description (Editor III)

Job Responsibilities

  1. Proofreads and edits pharmaceutical marketing, health education, and corporate materials for spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors; format/style inconsistencies; and sense and clarity.
  2. Aligns projects with brand standards and corporate style.
  3. Ensures projects comply with applicable industry and FDA regulations.
  4. Verifies Medical/Regulatory/Legal feedback has been properly implemented.
  5. Notates and communicates any edits and content queries in a clear, concise manner.
  6. Fact checks medical claims against published sources and creates annotated reference documents.
  7. Assists with project submissions using Veeva Vault PromoMats platform.
  8. Collaborates with cross-functional colleagues to deliver targeted, high-quality work.
  9. Attends kickoff, status, and other job-related meetings.
  10. Provides editorial leadership for assigned accounts, taking ownership and overseeing projects from concept to completion.

  1. Meticulous editing and proofreading skills.
  2. Pharma experience; familiarity with industry standards.
  3. Proficiency in 11th edition AMA style, including referencing.
  4. Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat annotation tools.
  5. Ability to manage multiple deadlines; work well under pressure.

Required Skills/Capabilities

  1. Exceptional medical proofreading and editing skills, including content referencing; command of AMA 11th edition style.
  2. Experience fact checking and annotating medical claims.
  3. Experience submitting projects via Veeva Vault PromoMats a definite plus.
  4. Familiarity with FDA regulations for promotion of prescription drugs.
  5. Fluency in review of digital/interactive/tablet and print tactics targeted toward a variety of audiences, including medical professionals, consumers, and corporate.
  6. Relentless attention to detail, but able to look at a project, or series of projects, holistically.
  7. Ability to review for language (spelling, grammar, consistency) and design (colors, formatting, spacing, line wraps, etc.).
  8. Strong time management skills; able to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
  9. Proactive and able to prioritize, research, and problem-solve without guidance.
  10. Approachable demeanor; positive attitude; collaborative, diplomatic communication style.
  11. Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Word.
  12. 3-5 years of pharmaceutical advertising editing experience.
