GENERAL FUNCTION:
  • Apply DoD, AF, and engineering/scientific principles to improve the performance and sustainability of weapon systems.
  • Understand and apply MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria to aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Support System Integrity Programs, including the Mechanical Systems Integrity Program (MECSIP), Critical Safety Item (CSI) list maintenance, and airworthiness certification monitoring.
  • Execute Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 62-6 on airworthiness, assisting with the issuance of flight authorizations and adhering to associated AFIs and Airworthiness Bulletins.
  • Translate user requirements into actionable system requirements for designing, developing, testing, and evaluating systems and subsystems for fielding and deployment.
  • Conduct technical/mission analyses of existing and future operational requirements and assist in the development of system concepts and technology assessments.
  • Provide engineering support for rapid response activities to address critical operational and supportability issues.
  • Support the system safety engineering program, conducting mishap risk assessments and evaluating contractor safety proposals.
  • Assist in drafting technical evaluations, engineering studies, reports, and acquisition strategies (ICD, ORD, CDD, CONOPS, SRD, etc.) as part of system development and fielding.
  • Assist in analyzing cost/risk trade-offs and lifecycle cost considerations for system design and development.
  • Support the identification of opportunities for improvement in contractor strategies, plans, and activities related to quality assurance and manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in preparing descriptions of broad quality strategies and preparing contract deliverables for QA and testing requirements.
  • Help assess and develop technology transition plans and provide inputs to various acquisition documents, such as Technology Readiness Assessments (TRA) and Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRA).
  • Conduct QA analyses to ensure hardware systems are produced using controlled manufacturing processes, minimizing risks to cost, schedule, and user satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications/Experience/Skills:
  • MA Degree and at least 10 years of experience in the related field, 5 of which must be with the DoD, OR, BA Degree and at least 12 years of experience related to the position requirements, 5 of which must be with the DoD, OR, 15 years of directly related experience, 8 of which must be with the DoD.
  • Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret Level.
  • Must be able to perform functional duties independently.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance
