an experienced

Design Manager

to lead and oversee design activities for critical repair projects and construction programs. This role requires a strategic leader who can ensure quality, compliance, and efficiency in the design process while working collaboratively with architects, consultants, and stakeholders. Role Overview The Design Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing design activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and managing multiple projects from conception to completion. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in facilities design, contract administration, and coordination of capital projects, with a strong understanding of architectural and engineering principles. Responsibilities Plans, organizes, and directs design activities for critical projects. Functions as the lead design professional, ensuring policy compliance and quality reviews. Manages and coordinates the design process to align with functional, budgetary, and legal requirements. Oversees multiple projects, working with architects, consultants, and internal teams from inception to completion. Ensures compliance with building and educational standards. Identifies and selects architectural firms based on qualifications and performance. Provides clear direction to architects regarding project goals, budgets, and schedules. Establishes an effective design review process to maximize value and functionality. Ensures timely decision-making and proper project documentation. Reviews design changes to maintain budget adherence. Participates in community outreach programs to foster understanding and support. Coordinates with various departments and professional staff to support design functions. Develops continuing education opportunities, including seminars and workshops. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Required Experience Minimum

10 years

of full-time professional experience managing facilities design or capital projects, including design, contract administration, cost estimation, and scheduling. At least

5 years

of experience in the design, planning, and construction of

educational facilities

or similar public agency projects. Required Education Bachelors degree in

Architecture

or

Engineering

from a recognized institution. Preferred Licenses and Certifications Valid

Certificate of Registration

as an

Architect

by the

California State Architectural Board

or as a

Professional Engineer

by the

State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors .
