Department: Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs

Pay Range: $30 for 30-minute lessons per lesson/$40 for 45-minute lessons per lesson

Job Status: Part Time; Monday, Friday, and Saturday openings


JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for teaching age appropriate voice instruction for

ages 7 and up and/or piano/guitar/ukulele to ages 5 and up. Must present lesson plans and be

involved with Music Recital at end of quarter in April./May Communicates with

supervisor, students and parents. Keeps excellent attendance records, notates

absences and makeup lessons. Will be in charge of their own schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicates closely with Supervisor in regards to student lesson day, time, attendance, issues or concerns regarding student or parents, Cc's supervisor on all communication via email with parents. Coordinates Music Recital day/time. Turns in attendance sheets weekly for supervisor to inspect. Notates all makeup lesson dates in regards to absences if student is owed a makeup lesson.
  • Introduces self to prospective parents via email inquiring about lessons
  • Responds to emails inquiring about lesson days, times and secures slot for student
  • Communicates to parents and information about lesson plan, homework, concerns and updates on student's progress
  • Instructs students appropriately according to age and level
  • Provides students with supplies, sheet music or directs parents where to get materials from
  • Starts and ends lessons on time
  • Keeps music room orderly, lets supervisor know of any supplies needed
  • Takes charge and directs Music Recital

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • College degree in area of music being taught preferred or 2 years instructing experience or professional performance

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Driver License preferred

Special Requirements: Must pass the State of Georgia criminal background check.

Teaching experience of voice & piano for children & adults required with knowledge

of correct techniques for all genres of music. Must be responsible, prepared and

punctual.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and capability of learning to work with Supervisor and other staff in regards to City of Roswell policies and procedures. High degree of human relations skills. Ability to effectively communicate and manage information to peers, staff and volunteers. Ability to motivate, coach, and lead participants in the field of music education.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary to light which requires the ability to exert light physical effort, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time sitting or standing at a digital keyboard. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally with students and parents.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
