Job Summary/Description:

KGNS+ is seeking a morning news anchor. We are looking for an aggressive anchor who is passionate about covering local news and weather. KGNS+ is looking for a candidate who is an energetic “morning person” who can give viewers something to look forward to in the mornings. We need someone who can be a co-anchor but also solo-anchor when necessary for several hours and serve as a co-producer during the overnight hours. We seek an anchor who will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, be a leader, and be a researcher who will assist in developing enterprise and investigative content.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Collaborating and assisting show producers with writing of news content
  2. Researching, gathering, shooting, writing, and editing news stories for on-air and online
  3. Completing regular franchises or special investigative reports
  4. Writing in a clear, concise, conversational manner
  5. Possessing excellent interview and conversational writing/presentation skills
  6. Reporting “live” on the scene during breaking news or weather
  7. Developing and maintaining sources of information
  8. Demonstrating sound news judgment
  9. Enterprising hard-news, research-driven stories under tight deadlines
  10. Participating in editorial meetings
  11. Attending/hosting/speaking at schools, and community events
  12. Posting and regularly updating stories and other material on the web and social media
  13. Interacting with viewers on social media, including a regular presence on Facebook Live
  14. Following clothing and appearance guidelines set by news management
  15. Learning a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history
  16. Possibly Producing and anchoring at least 15-30 minutes a day on OTT
  17. Performing other job-related duties as assigned
  18. Meeting tight deadlines and working well under pressure
  19. Maintaining professional and ethical conduct in the station and in the community
  20. Maintaining a positive work atmosphere
  21. Staying current with national and local news/weather

Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. One (1) year experience in a newsroom preferred, including anchoring experience
  2. BS/BA in journalism or communications preferred
  3. Ability to shoot, write and edit your own stories as necessary
  4. Experience with posting stories to web and social media
  5. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  6. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  7. Computer literacy, including newsroom computer systems
  8. A valid driver's license and a good driving record
