Salary: Starting at $60,000, commensurate with experience and education.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The New Jersey Senate Majority Office (SMO) provides legal, policy, and communications support to Democratic members of the New Jersey State Senate. The Communications and Multimedia Content Specialist will report to the Acting Director of Communications and create cross-platform communications content. This position integrates traditional communication methods, such as press releases, with modern strategies like social media campaigns and website updates to ensure a clear and impactful message. The role is central to maintaining a cohesive online and offline presence that supports the SMO’s mission. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Communications and Multimedia Content Specialist will create and manage content across multiple platforms, focusing on maintaining a cohesive brand presence through press releases, social media, and website updates.
Strategic Communication Development
- Develop comprehensive communication plans aligned with legislative priorities.
- Craft persuasive messaging for press releases, talking points, speeches, newsletters, and social media platforms.
- Collaborate with the policy team to translate complex legislative issues into accessible content for diverse audiences.
Website and Social Media Content Creation and Management
- Assist in creating the legislative office's digital presence across various platforms.
- Develop engaging content for social media channels, including graphics, videos, and live streams.
- Create and maintain consistent messaging across all SMO channels.
- Curate and schedule engaging content for social media platforms to enhance audience engagement.
- Maintain and update the organization’s website, ensuring content accuracy and alignment with organizational goals.
- Monitor communication metrics and analytics, providing regular reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent branding across all communication efforts.
- Support additional communication initiatives and campaigns as directed.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with legislative staff to align communication efforts with policy objectives.
- Coordinate messaging and outreach efforts with external partners and stakeholders.
- Provide communication support for legislative initiatives, campaigns, and special projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, or related field.
- 3+ years in communications, journalism, public information, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in website and social media management.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with social media management tools and platform analytics.
- Basic knowledge of web development or experience with a CMS.
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities.
- State government experience a plus.
Residency Law: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, all persons newly hired by the Executive Branch must establish and maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey within one year of employment.
