About WKTB:

Telemundo Atlanta (WKTB) is a premier Spanish-language television station providing award-winning local news and programming. Telemundo Atlanta has received 61 Emmy Awards since 2012, including the top honor of Station Excellence in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2022, and 2023. The station produces essential daily local news Monday through Friday at 12 pm, 5:30 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm, which can also be accessed over our website www.telemundoatlanta.com and mobile application.

Job Summary/Description:

WKTB is seeking a News Director who will lead an award-winning news team to provide news and information in Georgia and the Southeast. We are looking for a collaborative and dynamic news professional who excels with high expectations, passion, and dedication.

The News Director will lead and manage news coverage for WKTB and Gray’s Spanish Language News Bureau. The successful candidate will bring an established record of recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse newsroom. The News Director works closely with the General Manager and must have the ability to implement and execute a strategic plan for both on-air and digital audiences.

Duties/Responsibilities include:

  1. Lead and manage news coverage for WKTB and the Spanish Language News Bureau.
  2. Collaborate with sister station Atlanta News First and all Gray news stations.
  3. Recruit, develop, and retain a diverse newsroom.
  4. Work with the News Management team to initiate and manage well-branded content.
  5. Make editorial decisions on content.
  6. Effectively communicate goals and plans for the newsroom.
  7. Oversee all Anchors/Reporters, MMJs, Producers, and Assignment Editors/Digital Content Producers.
  8. Execute Breaking News and Severe Weather coverage plans.
  9. Plan and execute ''Big Story'' coverage.
  10. Conduct regular editorial and feedback sessions with news teams.
  11. Monitor newscasts and digital news coverage to ensure staff is meeting standards.
  12. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and protect journalistic integrity.
  13. Ensure the news team follows best practices on all platforms.
  14. Work well with all station departments/managers.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  1. Proficient in English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
  2. At least four years of previous experience in newsroom leadership.
  3. Strong communication and organizational skills.
  4. Creativity and passion for news.
  5. Ability to multi-task in high-stress situations.
  6. Knowledge of various digital and social platforms.
  7. Proven leadership ability and exceptional organizational skills.
  8. Must have a strong desire to understand the audience across all platforms.
  9. Some travel may be required to Southeast markets for events, meetings, and news coverage.
  10. Solid editorial judgment and journalistic ethics.
  11. Enjoy a fast-paced environment with a desire to win.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be willing to work in the newsroom in Atlanta, GA.
  2. Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and insurance.
  3. Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment background investigation.
  4. Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
  5. Must be 18 years or older.
