JOB SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision of the Library Director or designee, the part-time Summer Reading Aide assists customers with reading club signups and questions, helps prepare and manage special events, and provides shelving support to the circulation department. The Library Aide must consistently use independent judgement, discretion, and diligence in performing these duties.

The Keller Library will be hiring two (2) Library Aides to work from May 24, 2025 – August 1,2025. The schedules are listed below:

Position 1:

  • Monday 9:00am – 6:00pm (8 hours w/ lunch break)
  • Tuesday 9:00am – 6:00pm (8 hours w/ lunch break)
  • Wednesday 9:00am – 5:00pm (7 hours w/ lunch break)
  • Thursday 12:00pm – 5:00pm (4 hours)

Position 2:

  • Saturday 9:00am – 6:00pm (8 hours w/ lunch break)
  • Wednesday 12:00pm – 5:00pm (4 hours)
  • Thursday 9:00am – 5:00pm (7 hours w lunch break)
  • Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm (8 hours w/ lunch break)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist the public, especially children and their parents, with signing up for and utilizing the online Summer Reading Club software.
  2. Assist with weekly children’s summer events and programs, teen events, and any other summer programs sponsored by the library.
  3. Distribute prizes and track results in online software.
  4. Assist with setting up and/or taking down meeting room furniture.
  5. Accurately sort and shelve library materials in a timely manner.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist other staff members with various tasks as needed.
  2. Arrive to work on time as scheduled.
  3. Available for training with online software program prior to the start of Summer Reading Club.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma, preferred.
  2. Candidate must be 17 years old by the first day of the Summer Reading Program.
  3. Ability to interact and communicate with all age groups effectively and professionally, especially with children.
  4. Good English, math and spelling skills.
  5. Ability to sort alphabetically, by genre, in correct sequential order.
  6. Knowledge of computers and software applications mandatory.
  7. Ability to learn assigned tasks readily and adhere to departmental rules.
  8. Able to work evenings and weekends.

Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office with occasional exposure to outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
