The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Assistant is responsible for inputting various GIS data and attribute information to assist with creating GIS-generated maps. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by their direct supervisor. Use ArcGIS to input data and attribute information. Prepare and maintain spreadsheets and word documents as needed. Computer filing of documents as needed. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities Design & Drafting Assistant and while operating related equipment including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, toe shoes shoe, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Additional information may be found here
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS Education and Experience
High school diploma and/or related college courses preferred. Experience with ArcGIS Pro. Ability to communicate well and work independently. Must be courteous, detailed oriented, self-motivated, diligent, and trustworthy. Clean and professional appearance. Must be able to understand and follow instructions, and work under limited supervision. Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude. Exceptional self-management. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform duties of a GIS Assistant in typical Virginia Climate. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information. Ability to understand, speak, and write English to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. Ability to work independently. Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates. Well-developed communication skills Strong organizational skills. Excellent computer skills. Problem-Solving Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Physical and Sensory Abilities Occasionally required to travel to local and on and off-campus locations. Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. Regularly required to hear and speak to effectively communicate orally. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel, or stoop in order to conduct business. Occasionally lift 50+ pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate. However, this position does, on occasion, require job site visits that will not be climate controlled or well lit.
Driving Requirements
Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
