Job Title: Home School Enrichment Literature Teacher (Grades 1-6)

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND)- Dacono, CO

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Dean of Homeschool Enrichment

Work Days: Part-time (.3 FTE - approximately 12 hours per week) Aug.-May HSE Faculty Calendar will be provided

In-person Fridays 8:00am-3:30pm (the remaining work hours for planning and preparation can be done at home throughout the week)

Desired Start Date: August 2025

Salary Range: $13,500 to $14,000

The Ascent Classical Homeschool Enrichment Program is a tuition-free enrichment day offered to home-educated students. We provide homeschooled students with a classical academic enrichment program based in the liberal arts and sciences that supports and enriches their home education and cultivates a community of friendship and learning.

We are looking for someone with high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, and a can-do attitude to join our team and to help us build for the future. A successful candidate will have previous classroom experience working with elementary or middle school students. They will demonstrate enthusiasm and knowledge of the classical tradition, as well as expertise in the field of literature. They will desire to partner with parents and their home-educated students. Candidates should desire to work in a collaborative environment. They should be professional and well-organized and exhibit intellectual curiosity.

Essential Functions:

  • Promote the school's mission and vision
  • Engage students with a love of learning about literature and the classics
  • Create an atmosphere of excellence paired with engagement and joyful learning
  • Actively seek collaborative relationships with parents and mentor students in the pursuit of their own flourishing
  • Use a curriculum map outline to create weekly lessons
  • Guide students in the ability to read and appreciate great literature
  • Teach multiple sections of literature to students in Kindergarten through 6th grade
  • Build an excellent school culture by holding students and staff to high academic and behavioral standards and modeling our school's seven core virtues

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree/passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area
  • A state teaching certification is not required
  • Previous classroom experience working with elementary or middle school students preferred
  • Enthusiasm and knowledge of the classical tradition and expertise in the field of literature
  • Desire to partner with parents and their home-educated students
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment
  • Professional and well-organized
  • Exhibit intellectual curiosity
  • Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government
  • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing to teach
  • Must be able to supervise outdoor recess/lessons
