Salary to be commensurate with experience

The hiring range for this position is $24.41 - $30.52/hour

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT The Communications and Marketing Department at the City of Aurora is seeking an energetic and highly collaborative Graphic Designer. This individual will be responsible for elevating the brand and supporting creative solutions for the city. This position is hybrid and requires the ability to work in office with potential for some remote capabilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Conceptualizes, designs, composes, and creates layout of multi-channel solutions, digital advertisements, interactive forms, business cards, newsletters, posters, advertising, flyers, certificates, environmental graphics, catalogs, annual reports, logos, charts, graphs, direct mail pieces and promotional items, corporate communications, and identity Works cross-functionally with clients regarding project requirements, defines project scope, timeline, and design standards Researches and stays apprised of creative trends and brings fresh ideas to brainstorming meetings Take various creative assignments from request through completion, while managing deadlines and effectively communicating with the Design Supervisor and Marketing and Creative Manager Accountable for tracking project timelines, status, and accuracy. Take initiative to clarify project goals and deliverables with stakeholders and offer recommendations to solve problems Collaborates with Sr Designers and stakeholders to solve creative challenges while adhering to brand standards and best practices Operates various types of equipment related to graphic design to include drafting tools, cameras, copiers, personal computers, sound recorders, and related desktop publishing software May troubleshoot minor equipment repairs Arranges with vendors and suppliers for outside work and maintenance of stocks Performs other related duties as assigned This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

Associate's degree in graphic design, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Experience:

At least 2 years related to the area of assignment in graphic design, art direction and web design. At least 1 year experience in desktop publishing. Demonstrates understanding of color theory, branding, and typography. Experienced in design, digital, branding and print projects. Proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Some knowledge of social media and display advertisement formats, best practices, and platforms. Preferred:

3 or more years' experience with social media and display advertisement formats, best practices, platforms, and animation. experience in Communications with a municipal government Knowledge:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of promotion, marketing, and branding. Personal computers, related hardware, and related software application packages. Knowledge of graphic design, printing process, typography, layout best practices, and packaging design files. Analytical skills to identify trends. Skills:

Practical application of theoretical knowledge. Capabilities or proficiencies developed through training or hands-on experience.

Proactive, with the ability to work well independently and as a team. Strong organization and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and execute multiple projects and deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated capabilities in brand management and communications skills. Strong skills in using a computer and related software to successfully complete job's function. Good understanding of design techniques, port-production standards, and best practices, from screen and print color, type, illustration, photography Experience with various layout techniques, print set up and coordinating with print production shop. Proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Skill in making presentations both orally and in writing. Abilities:

Takes direction well and able to excel in a highly collaborative work environment. Ensure all work consistently meets established brand standards and guidelines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, sponsors, media. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy. Must be a collaborator and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on collaborative teamwork and strong customer service. Ability to working on multiple projects at any time, this person should be able to multitask, have good time Management skills to meet deadlines, and be able to prioritize work as needed WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. Physical Demands:

Light/moderate physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds. Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing. Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of office equipment. Vision for reading and interpreting reports and data analysis and preparation. Frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens Speech communication to give instructions and provide technical direction. Work Environment:

Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment; occasionally works nights and weekend. Equipment Used:

Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines. This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g., vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
