Location
This job is hybrid, both virtual and in-person, but primarily virtual.
Hours
Part-time/ 10-15 hours per week. Hours are flexible and work will sometimes be self-directed and other times will involve working in collaboration with others.
Volunteer Position
This is a volunteer position. Your contributions will go a long way to inform those who benefit from local mental health resources, support, political advocacy and stigma-free community.
Purpose
To assist the Operations Manager in creating media pieces that promote NAMI Glendale confidential, free, community-led mental health programming. To design compelling messages to sustain and grow attendance in support groups, classes, presentations and to inform the community about mental health awareness campaigns.
Responsibilities
Create media that is consistent with the branding of NAMI Glendale that speaks to an audience of people affected by serious mental illness in themselves and/or their loved ones.
Create digital and print media that follows the format and conventions used by our organization and media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook.
Be able to create multiple digital file sizes using the same design style, for example creating files for the website and newsletters, as well as print files for postcards and posters.
Be familiar with compressing media to post in digital spaces, and create media that suits the publishing platform, that reaches the intended audience and that delivers a message aligned with NAMI Glendale’s commitment to stigma-free mental health awareness.
Be familiar with creating files for print according to specs, including familiarity with working with the printers to result in professional final print pieces.
Able to source great media assets, to identify the right shot from our collection, to work with photographers or illustrators, and use visual media in a way that is compelling.
Adept at working with fonts and design elements for legibility and impact.
Skills Required
Be receptive to critical feedback of your drafts, and capable of taking notes and making edits.
Communicate status on your task completion. Ability to employ time management skills to create your own schedule, organize your calendar and prioritize your to-do list.
Experience with design tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator and Canva.
Experience with Google suite, especially Google Drive and Google Sheets.
Desirable Qualifications
Engagement with NAMI programs and/or NAMI Glendale membership.
Language skills: Spanish, Armenian, Korean, Filipino to enable community engagement.
Experience with web design coding, Wordpress or Constant Contact.
