Role Description: As Editor, Real Estate Education and Finance, for Homes.com (a subsidiary of CoStar Group), you'll be an integral part of a growing editorial team. You will edit, optimize and publish content that helps establish Homes.com as the most trusted source of information in residential real estate. Your work will cover all aspects of what it’s like to buy and sell homes today. You’ll educate homebuyers on the effects of the NAR judgment and the impact of fluctuating interest rates. You will also put an emphasis on the publication of helpful homebuying and selling articles, geographic insights, and coverage of personal finance topics that relate to residential real estate. You will work with a small team of writers to bring helpful, data-driven real estate content to life.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor a small team of internal writers on their research, reporting and writing.
- Edit articles and on-page content to enhance the overall storytelling.
- Identify quality concerns and provide guidance to writers on how to improve.
- Produce, upload and publish content, including articles, photos, videos and data visualizations.
- Assist with assignment scheduling and maintaining an up-to-date content calendar.
- Create data visualizations, using both internal and external data sets.
- Execute an SEO-focused content strategy that delivers helpful content with great readability.
- Focus on improving ledes to draw the reader in.
- Rewrite portions of the content that require additional work and/or send the copy back to the writer with clear, helpful feedback.
- Ensure that the overall voice, style and flow of copy is consistent with the Homes.com brand vision.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Creative Writing, English, Marketing or Communications from an accredited, not-for-profit University or College.
- A professional background that includes residential real estate, personal finance, service journalism or data journalism.
- Experience editing and optimizing content for SEO, with a basic understanding of SEO tools like SEMrush.
- The ability to identify opportunities that improve content and drive increased traffic.
- A background working with content management systems, such as WordPress, Drupal or Brightspot.
- Experience following Associated Press Stylebook (AP Stylebook) guidelines.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A track record of commitment to prior employers.
- 7-10 years of professional editing experience.
- 3-5 years of professional experience managing freelancers or a small internal team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Datawrapper, Flourish and Tableau.
- A thorough understanding of SEO best practices, with experience using SEO tools to drive editorial decisions and optimize content.
- Experience managing a content calendar and identifying new opportunities for coverage.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to successfully multitask and track assignments through multiple stages of production.
- A highly collaborative attitude; you’re a team player who is not afraid to speak up or ask questions.
