Reporting to the Director of the Treadwell Library and applying strong interpersonal and technological skills, the Knowledge Specialist for Research and Instruction will deliver innovative, responsive and user-focused knowledge services to the MGH community and will be a key contributor to the library's comprehensive review service. This includes performing expert level database searching and consultation services, including those for systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis projects, delivering instruction in both in-person and online environments and cultivating partnerships with individuals and groups within the wider MGH community. The incumbent will perform the tasks and duties of this position in a virtual library setting and must be a dynamic and outgoing team player demonstrating creativity, flexibility and an openness to change and ambiguity.

Job Summary
  1. Provide high quality research and reference support to meet the clinical, educational and research needs of the MGH community.
  2. Contribute to the library's comprehensive review service, including managing multiple review projects simultaneously.
  3. Provide extensive and exhaustive search services for systematic reviews and other intensive research projects.
  4. Provide in-depth and on-demand consultation services for individuals and groups on systematic reviews, scoping reviews, rapid reviews, guideline development, evidence synthesis, database searching and use of medical literature to support evidence-based practices throughout the hospital.
  5. Perform general research and reference consultation services.
  6. Collaborate with colleagues, to review and evaluate electronic knowledge resources and technologies.
  7. In collaboration with the director, plan and implement strategies for integrating the educational expertise and services into clinical care, teaching and research at MGH.
  8. Develop and deliver effective and efficient instructional services for both online and in-person learning environments.
  9. Create online learning modules to support instructional services.
  10. Guide MGH staff and students in the effective use of knowledge services and resources to support evidence-based practice, teaching and research.
  11. Seek opportunities to collaborate and establish partnerships (including embedded services) with individuals and groups across MGH.
  12. Develop outreach activities and communication to promote knowledge services and resources to increase their use and effectiveness throughout the hospital.
  13. Consult and instruct on matters relating to evidence based practice and evidence synthesis.
Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in library and information studies from an ALA-accredited program or another comparable Master's degree program.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Experience: 3 or more years of experience in a medical/hospital/biomedical library or as a health sciences liaison librarian preferred.
