Visual Arts Teacher - Full time position starting August 14, 2025. This role exists to support and implement the Mission of Magnificat High School. The teacher is responsible for the daily holistic growth of the students in her/his classes. She/he participates in the total life of the school community and collaborates with faculty and staff to provide an optimal holistic learning environment for the students. Reports to: Dean of Faculty and Academics and Visual Arts Department Chairperson. Classification: Exempt, Full time, 42 weeks per year.

Position Summary:

Mission:

1. Teaches and acts in a manner consistent with the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church, the Mission and Heritage of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, and the Mission, Values, and beliefs of Magnificat High School.
2. Works to build a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative community with students, colleagues, parents/families, and others.
3. Respects the racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic diversity of all students.
4. Collaborates with department members and other faculty to develop curriculum and instructional practices in alignment with school Mission, Values, and goals.

Curriculum/Instruction:

1. Knowledge, experience, and ability to teach all levels of high school Visual Arts which may include Drawing, Design, Ceramics, Photography, Metals and/or AP Art History.
2. Uses strategies responsive to needs, abilities, interests, and learning differences of individual students.
3. Prepares unit and lesson plans that integrate school academic and Catholic Identity goals, Catholic Social Teaching, and Racial Literacy/Cultural Competency themes and resources.
4. Incorporates a variety of modes of teaching, learning, and assessing.
5. Integrates Facing History and Ourselves pedagogy, teaching strategies, and/or curricular resources.
6. Uses informative assessment data to inform instruction.
7. Works collaboratively with intervention specialists as needed and appropriate.
8. Promotes and encourages active student engagement.
9. Provides ongoing and meaningful feedback to students about their individual progress.
10. Regularly evaluates and reflects on lessons and units for strengths, successes, and need for revision based on student performance and feedback, and initiates appropriate modifications.
11. Actively contributes to department and team planning, curriculum development, and implementation.
12. Manages teaching and learning through Google Classroom.
13. Demonstrates competence at conducting online and/or blended learning classes using Google Meet and/or another virtual meeting platform.
14. Assumes responsibility for specific departmental activities as delegated by the department chair.

Other Expectations:

1. Provides weekly course updates in Google Classroom for each class.
2. Responds appropriately and within one working day to communication from parents, students, administration, and colleagues.
3. Models lifelong learning by participating in professional growth activities and demonstrates use of current best practices in instructional strategies.
4. Develops cultural competency through increased awareness of one’s own identity, culture, and biases.
5. Meets with Dean of Faculty and Academics or her designee regarding Individual Performance Goal development and progress and Individual Performance Reviews.
6. Develops and fulfills an Individual Professional Development Plan which aligns with the school Mission and the goals according to school, Diocesan, and LPDC guidelines.
7. Practices standards of professional etiquette in language, attire, and attention in the classroom and in all other professional activities.

Work Experience:

1. Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated successful teaching experience in the discipline.
2. Must have teaching experience at the high school level.

4. Ability and commitment to working collaboratively as a member of the Magnificat community and Visual Arts department.
