User Experience and Accessibility Specialist

Overview

As a User Experience and Accessibility Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that applications like Egrants, CIPP, and JHELD meet modern usability standards and comply with accessibility guidelines (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA). This position is ideal for a professional passionate about designing intuitive and inclusive systems that serve all users effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure usability and accessibility compliance for PCCD-developed and maintained systems, including Egrants, CIPP, JHELD, and others.
  • Act as a key contributor in designing and developing user interfaces for an upcoming Egrants project.
  • Evaluate applications for accessibility compliance and implement mitigation plans for WCAG 2.1 issues.
  • Recommend and implement responsive design strategies for mobile and tablet optimization.
  • Work closely with business and technical analysts to create prototypes and gather user feedback.
  • Provide recommendations for modernizing legacy .NET webforms applications into MVC or contemporary frameworks.
  • Assist the development team with:
    • Testing and documenting results in Microsoft Azure DevOps (ADO).
    • Preparing and publishing product release notes.
    • Developing user acceptance test plans.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders regarding project status.
  • Participate in team meetings to provide UI/UX recommendations.
  • Accurately track time for all work activities.
  • Establish and maintain user mechanisms for reporting digital accessibility issues.


Qualifications

Required:
  • Experience with accessibility compliance tools (e.g., Axe, JAWS, NVDA).
  • 5+ years of experience developing complex applications in an object-oriented environment.
  • 5+ years of experience with Visual Basic, C#, XML, CSS, and HTML.
  • 5+ years of experience working with SQL Server or comparable relational databases.
Highly Desired:
  • Experience with UI/UX tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Bootstrap).
  • 3+ years of experience with accessibility testing tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of source code management tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to complete regular accessibility training to stay aligned with evolving standards.
  • Experience with user experience guidelines and tools.
  • 3+ years of experience with issue tracking tools (e.g., Azure DevOps).
  • Experience with workflow diagramming.
  • Familiarity with Telerik .NET UI controls.
  • Understanding of W3C's Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) and User Agent Accessibility Guidelines (UAAG).
Desired:
  • Knowledge of public safety and criminal justice concepts.
  • Familiarity with grants management or financial systems.
Education & Experience
  • Preferred: 5 to 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent technical study.
Travel Requirements
  • Candidates must be within a reasonable travel distance for occasional on-site meetings, which may include overnight stays.
