Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC), the Marketing and Communications Specialist will develop and execute a marketing and communications strategy to support TERC's mission. The strategy will include use of web, social media, news media, marketing materials and events. Responsibilities include development of marketing language to communicate key messages to target audiences and internal and external stakeholders; creation of original written and visual content; design and production of materials in digital and print formats for a variety of projects; production of signature TERC products such as the annual State of the Lake Report; working on behalf of TERC with other agencies and organizations on joint communication products; working with UC Davis' and other visual identity standards to develop marketing and communication materials; management of TERC's paid, owned and earned media presence; and planning and execution of events. Work with UC Davis Strategic Communications personnel to prepare press releases, respond to public information requests and other TERC related information in accordance with legal and regulatory standards and UC Davis media policy. Provide professional writing and video and illustrative support for promotional and website development. BA or BS in communications and marketing, journalism, or public relations or equivalent combination of education and experience. *

Experience developing and executing marketing strategies and brand platforms that leverage owned, earned and paid media to promote an organization and its accomplishments to key audiences. *

Experience creating messaging guidance, written and visual content and using it in print, digital and promotional marketing materials to support and convey an organization's mission, goals and values. *

Project management skills to achieve communication and marketing objectives using diverse communication platforms and working with large, dispersed teams. *

Communication skills to interact effectively with culturally diverse constituents, including students, staff, faculty, agency staff, government officials, NGO's, alumni, and community members. *

Experience working as part of a team planning large, complex events involving multiple vendors for space, food, decor, audio/visual, and travel, as well as diverse attendees. Preferred Qualifications *

Previous experience in marketing and communications for the University community, the public and for philanthropic efforts. *

Experience in science communication/marketing for engineering and science related fields. *

Graphic design skills to create novel, impactful designs and knowledge of and experience with printing, pre-press production and on-press procedures, and preparing and packaging files for production. *

Skills to be entrepreneurial and innovative, including initiating ideas and instituting best practices in communications. Key Responsibilities *
