The Senior Managing Editor oversees all aspects of the publishing schedule from acquisition to finished book. This person is a liaison between the imprint and the production department and will work closely with the publisher, editors, designers, production editors, production managers, art department, supply chain, and other groups.
This person will work on the Simon Element, Marysue Rucci, and Simon Acumen lists, which include many 4/C highly designed books and high-profile fiction and non-fiction titles. The Sr. ME will be responsible for creating schedules for b&w titles, originating and applying procedures as needed, and managing an assistant.
The Senior ME will report to the Director of Adult Managing Editorial and will be an active member of the Managing Editorial department.
This candidate should have clear communication skills, clear leadership skills, a great attention to detail, and an ability to react to a situation quickly and concisely. A positive attitude and an interest in the genre of titles being published are advantageous. The candidate should have at least four years of experience in Managing Editorial.
Responsibilities Include
- Overseeing the entire production process
- Working with the publishing department to schedule titles
- Setting transmittal dates with editors
- Managing ISBN set-up and updating data via the Title Management (TM) database
- Creating production schedules and adjusting as needed
- Tracking seasonal feed dates and embargoed materials
- Running production, inventory, and jacket meetings
- Communicating pertinent information to various departments
- Logging and tracking contract amendments and terminations
- Continually streamlining processes as technology and the industry change

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO.
