Skilled, advanced Graphic design work conceptualizing, creating, planning and realizing solutions to visual problems.
Work involves the preparation of creative graphic presentations for various City departments. An employee in this class acts as a consultant to those departments requiring technical advice on visual communications problems, and coordinates the design of publications and promotional materials with staff members and commercial printers. Independent judgment is required as to creative concept, type selection and choices of paper and inks and to carry each assignment to completion. Assignments are received and work is reviewed by the Senior Graphic Designer or higher-level Administrator.
Designs various items including: brochures, newsletters, posters, report covers, print advertising, annual reports, flyers, invitations, logos, forms, letterhead/envelopes/business cards, posters, banners, fixed and temporary signage, vehicle signage, as well as web page design and multimedia presentations.
Discusses with professional staff or department head the use of graphics to communicate ideas.
Decides on font size, page layout and color selections.
Researches and selects stock photos and/or graphic elements to develop concepts.
Prints and constructs comps for proofing.
Prepares printing instructions to accompany project.
Prepares wide format graphics for the construction of large exhibits and displays, designs, prints signs, posters, and banners for temporary use.
Designs and prepares various vinyl signs.
Develops maps, charts and graphs as needed.
Develops new forms under the direction of the Senior Graphic Designer and makes revisions to existing forms, following a standardized city format.
Prepares files for output, checks to determine if all files are collected and generates print ready PDF.
Installs and updates software on Macintosh computers; trouble-shooting software conflicts and hardware problems. Performs periodic maintenance on computer hard drives.
Performs other related duties as required.
A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or Visual Marketing and one (1) year experience in graphics design/illustration work.
A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application; however, prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and maintained valid throughout employment.
OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of the required experience.
