BROADCAST TECHNICIAN I

NON-EXEMPT



DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position works under the direction of the Canton Community Productions Coordinator and is responsible for assisting the other technicians and staff in the daily operations of the Township's government access station. Responsibilities include shooting, editing and playback of township programming. An employee in this position will be assigned to work days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.


EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Note: These examples are intended as illustrations of the various types of work performed.)

  • Perform audio and video capturing, editing and related functions associated with a variety of Township meetings, theater productions, and other events as assigned.
  • Responsible for preparation of studio as assigned.
  • Coordinate guest and interview scheduling.
  • Perform studio opening and closing tasks as directed.
  • Operate cable equipment including studio equipment, cameras, editors, and remote-control systems.
  • Responsible for running audio board as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience converting and uploading videos to social media and the internet required (educational, professional and/or personal experience will be considered).
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
  • Experience with the use of ENG cameras and Adobe editing systems.
  • Experience recording, editing and replaying events and meetings required.
  • Previous video production experience required.
  • Skill in organizing self and others; ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities .
  • Ability to work in adverse environmental, extreme weather and field conditions; ability to physically set-up, carry, and store necessary cable equipment used for taping programs and events.
  • Must be self motivated, dependable, punctual and have an excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to work a wide variety of shifts including afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish a good working relationship with the public, volunteers, and other employees.

Wednesday, February 5 through Monday, February 17, 2025 - Employment Application

  1. Submit a Canton Township Employment Application Form (online or paper), completed in its entirety prior to posted deadline date.

Tuesday, February 18 - Friday, February 21, 2025 - Application Screening Process

Employment applications and job question responses will be screened to determine which candidates will be interviewed. The preferred candidates will meet the following criteria:

  1. This will be a competitive process. A limited number of candidates will be selected for the interview based on their relevant work experience, education and training as compared to the other candidates in the application pool.
  2. Demonstrated ability to meet the minimum requirements of the job description as determined by responses to the initial job questions and employment application. Candidates must meet the minimum requirements of the position as posted on the job description to be considered.
  3. Application prepared representing the quality of desired professional work (spelling, grammar, and presentation are essential).
  4. Must possess a current, valid Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving. Candidate selected for this position will undergo a driving history check.

Week of March 10, 2025 - Oral Board Interviews

  1. Oral Interviews will be held on or after March 10th.
  2. Candidates selected for the Oral Interview will be notified via e-mail no later than February 28, 2025.
  3. The Oral Interview may include extensive questions that explore sensitive or confidential aspects of a candidate's personal life.
  4. Applicants not selected for the Oral Interview will be notified via e-mail no later than February 28, 2025.
  5. Candidates that do not receive an email regarding the status of their application by February 28th are asked to contact Human Resources at 734-394-5251.

Upon Completion of Oral Board Interviews - Conditional Offer of Employment Extended

  1. Offer letter sent to top candidate.
  2. All offers of employment are contingent on the results of reference checks, thorough background investigation, social media check, working history verification, pre-employment physical examination, drug screen and satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.
  3. Top candidate's employment references will be contacted and verified.
  4. Eligibility list must be approved in accordance with the Merit System Commission Human Resources Policy Manual.
