Anticipated Start Date: Depending on clearance of background check and health exam.

Primary Purpose:

Norfolk Southern’s Police Communication Officers oversee the coordinated response to incidents, both emergency and non-emergency, across our 22-state network. Their goal is to handle calls effectively, prioritizing saving lives, protecting property, and ensuring safety.

Principal Duties:

  1. Receives and prioritizes both emergency and non-emergency calls for railroad police services from Norfolk Southern employees, public law enforcement agencies, and the public to ensure appropriate response.
  2. Utilizes state and national computer networks to obtain criminal histories of persons encountered on Norfolk Southern’s property.
  3. Inputs calls for Railroad Police services in the Norfolk Southern Police Department's Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD).
  4. Monitors police field activities to ensure officer safety and to afford appropriate protection for lading, equipment, and facilities to deter depredations.
  5. Receives, documents, and disseminates information concerning a wide variety of high-value shipments to appropriate field personnel.
  6. Receives and processes complaints and other calls on Norfolk Southern’s grade Crossing Hotline concerning grade crossing problems, malfunctions, and other rail-related incidents.

Experience:

Emergency dispatch.

Required Licenses / Certifications:

Certified Police Communications Officer or Public Safety Experience.

Additional Information:

Medical Requirements: This position is safety sensitive; all new hires will be required to complete a pre-employment medical screening that includes a physical, hearing, vision, and drug/alcohol test.
