Trade Press Media Group is seeking a talented, detail-oriented assistant editor to join its commercial cleaning group. This candidate will manage and create diverse content for industry-leading print and digital products.

The ideal candidate must have strong writing and editing skills, as well as high standards in quality control. The person will be responsible for developing extensive industry knowledge and using that knowledge to create content in a wide variety of formats. We are looking for a self-starter/team player that can prioritize tasks and can collaborate with other editors and departments.

This candidate will have a degree in journalism or a related field. Knowledge of AP style is required. SEO experience, multimedia, and content management system proficiency a plus.

Assistant Editor’s Responsibilities:

  • Oversee freelance process for print and digital content, including creating assignments, sourcing, and managing assignments on schedule
  • Oversee quality and accuracy of magazine product
  • Manage and/or support periodic special sections, some of which may have advertorial elements
  • Attend industry events to support partnerships, network, and content generation
  • Research and write engaging articles for multiple industry-leading brands, meeting deadlines, SEO, style, and other goals
  • Edit and ensure quality control for all print and digital content, including adherence to AP style, brand style, factual accuracy, and completeness
  • Coordinate and finalize magazine layouts (copy and images) with graphic designer
  • Assist with online conversion of magazines using Content Management System (CMS)
  • Create compelling stories using video recordings
  • Topic generation for industry webcasts
  • Collect, analyze, and use reader analytics to drive content generation needs
  • Spearhead industry surveys and research projects
  • Host virtual events, including introducing speakers, moderating networking sessions and handling live Q&A
  • Participate in content brainstorming sessions, strategy meetings and new product development discussions
  • Participate in cover design discussions

  • Team play required. The ability to work — and work well — with group staff and other Trade Press Media Group departments is essential.
  • Communication skills are critical: We're seeking a good listener who isn't afraid to ask questions — whether it's during the reporting/writing process, staff/interdepartmental meetings or at any point in the content development process — and who can generate and clearly articulate ideas as a result.
  • Social media savvy. As educators, we’re looking for someone to push out our content in a way that is appealing to vast and varying audiences.
