PURPOSE: Foster an appreciation of music as a vital part of general education. This includes teaching vocal and instrumental techniques, identifying and nurturing students’ musical talents, and developing their knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, explorations in instrumental and/or choral music; utilizes the course of study adopted by the Board, which, as much as possible, meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate for the maturity and interests of students.
- Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time to allow for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction within the allotted time.
- Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Prepare detailed lesson plans for substitutes, ensuring continuity of learning, including critical student information.
- Utilize a repertoire of diverse music literature, including traditional and contemporary works, appropriate for students' ages and skill levels.
- Maintain control of the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments and equipment as needed.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior necessary for an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
- Evaluate each student’s musical growth and performance, assessing individual contributions to group performances.
- Plan, rehearse, and direct students in musical programs for school events, including monthly evening music performances.
- Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and supplies; maintain required inventory records and makes authorized purchases.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
- Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, and/or transition times as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and participate on committees as required.
- Perform other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by an administrator.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of curriculum standards, subject content, and developmental needs of students.
- Knowledge of integrating key content elements, facilitating higher-level thinking, and linking content to past, future, and real-world experiences.
- Knowledge of current research and instructional strategies to plan and implement effective lessons tailored to diverse student needs.
- Knowledge of student intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.
- Skill in oral and written communication to effectively convey information to students, peers, and parents.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and implementing lessons that meet educational objectives.
- Skill in collaborating with certified and classified staff, parents, and community members to support student learning.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
- Ability to work independently, take professional initiative, and manage schedules and timelines.
- Ability to foster a collaborative and student-centered learning environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 182 Days. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building Principal or Dean in accordance with provisions of Board policy.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read music or handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will frequently drive while performing the duties of this job. The employee will hear conversations in a quiet and noisy environment and have the ability to tell where a sound is coming from. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary Schedule: 2024-2025 Salary Schedule
Payroll Schedule: Distributed over 26 periods, every other Friday

Sick Day Allocation: 16 days total, with up to 3 days available for personal use
