This position is for a Cyber/Systems Security Engineer (C/SSE) for a Space Segment-focused program where the CSSE provides technical excellence for a new space program. The CSSE’s core goal is architecting, designing, and building security features into spacecraft “bus” subsystems, components, and flight software. Prior knowledge and experience applying Cyber/SSE principles to complex, embedded systems in the early system development phase of the lifecycle are essential. The CSSE is responsible for Cyber CDRL development to document the security design of this new system. Strong technical qualifications are required with demonstrated ability to write and speak succinctly and accurately. As this is a national security mission, all applications must have “active SCI” sponsorship.

Additional Responsibilities for the Sr Pr Cyber/SSE:

  • Working independently as a CSSE SME in a structured engineering environment, where the CSSE decomposes system-level security requirements/controls; interleaves criteria from Cyber Survivability/Resilience, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and/or System/Technical Requirements Document (SRD or TRD); and allocates Cyber/SSE requirements to segment/subsystem/component specifications.

  • Supporting Cyber/SSE element technical presentations during engineering milestone reviews – SRR, PDR, CDR, and PSR in accordance with our internal Cyber Systems Engineering Standards document.

  • Understanding of Space/Ground interface control documents and security-relevant connectivity considerations at physical, electrical, and logical layers. Preparing and coordinating Interconnection Security Agreements (ISAs) where necessary.

  • Mastery of PKI and certificates and understanding how this technology may be used for digital signatures to verify integrity and non-repudiation.

  • Mastery of RED/BLACK boundary definition, TEMPEST considerations, Crypto units, Cross Domain Solutions, and Controlled Interfaces within complex systems.

  • Leading the Cyber/SSE effort in the development of program CDRLs including RMF SSP, Key & Certificate Management Plan (KCMP), Program Protection Implementation Plan (PPIP), and Cybersecurity Strategy.

  • Understanding the challenges related to implementing Secure Boot within complex systems, composed of custom hardware and software.

  • Ensuring systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field and 9 years IT security (Cybersecurity) experience in support of USG programs (or 7 years with a Masters; Or 4 years w/ a PhD.) Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.

  • 5 years technical leadership experience.

  • CISSP Certification.

  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes and milestones; understanding the requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation process.

  • Must have a commitment to working on-site, in restricted access facilities.

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship, with active Top Secret clearance with SCI at time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 9 years Cyber/SSE experience in Defense Aerospace Industry, building new systems.

  • 5 years experience working within restricted program areas.

  • Demonstrated engineering experience participating in Systems Engineering milestone reviews, as the Cyber CDRL primary author.

Salary Range: $151,100 - $226,700

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
