The purpose of this position is to support academic student writing for master's and doctoral programs at GSEP, with an emphasis on dissertation support, including managing the Dissertation Clearance/APA Review process for doctoral candidates. This additional student service will support the focus of academic quality and advance the reputation of GSEP and the University.

Duties

  1. Manage the Dissertation Clearance/APA review process for the doctoral students and their dissertations each term; train and oversee 4 to 6 graduate assistants for APA review; and maintain the Dissertation Support websites with current information and updated forms.
  2. Meet with all students at the graduate campuses regarding academic writing issues and evaluation of papers with an emphasis on support for doctoral candidates.
  3. Coordinate and present in-class workshops, virtual webinars, and annual events to students on APA review and academic writing topics related to the doctoral students.
  4. Manage ProQuest submissions for final dissertations.
  5. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, committee work and the GSEP commencement ceremony.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
  7. Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree (preferred subjects: English, literature, communications, creative writing, education, teaching ESL or related subjects). 1 to 2 years of experience as a technical/academic writer with experience in APA format. Ability to work with people, strong presentation skills, ability to function under pressure, ability to understand overall applications and concepts, and knowledge of APA format. An aptitude and willingness to learn new computer software programs. PC literacy required. Knowledge of Word, Excel, Google docs, and databases required.

Preferred: Master's degree (preferred subjects: English, literature, communications, creative writing, education, teaching ESL or related subjects). 3 years experience as a technical/academic writer with experience in APA format. Some experience in higher education. Preferred knowledge of virtual technology with presentations (For example, Zoom and Google Hangouts).

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position. This position may occasionally require work outside standard business hours for evening or weekend presentations.

Expected Pay Range: $25.40 - $27.40 per hour.
