About the Programme:

This is an exciting opportunity to join and shape a new Masters programme in the School of Architecture at the Royal College of Art. The MArch Design Practice supports students through research-led training towards delivering just transition. The programme engages with the complex and global consequences of construction to produce rigorous design and policy propositions that aim to transform the built environment. With climate as a central focus, students consider how economics, politics, and identity intersect with design to produce sites of opportunity and innovation, developing spatial practices towards a more just and flourishing world.

Through a flexible structure of core modules in the School of Architecture and electives across the Royal College of Art, students are invited to craft postgraduate journeys to fit their own learning and career ambitions. This interdisciplinary programme is enriched as a result, creating an exciting pedagogical environment in which students bring concepts, methods and ideas drawn from arts and humanities, design, communication, and creative education, into dialogue with architectural and spatial practices.

Why Join Us?

  1. Climate-led pedagogy: Contribute to a programme that tackles crucial climate-driven issues including the ethics of material specification and provenance, carbon based economies and possible alternative futures, labour relations in the built environment, housing and social reproduction, urgencies and possibilities within the ‘wastelands’ of global capital.
  2. Innovative Curriculum: Engage and develop innovative design pedagogies that contend with the implications of construction and its aftermath, incorporating analysis of reuse, materials, supply and labour chains, waste, risk and catastrophe, carbon and post-carbon futures into your teaching.
  3. Interdisciplinary Environment: Work alongside leading practitioners and researchers from across the Royal College of Art.

The Role:

  1. Deliver lectures, workshops, and seminars based on your own research and expertise, and support the oversight and administration of the programme.
  2. Contribute to shaping the curriculum and develop teaching and assessment methods informed by the programme themes and good practice.
  3. Develop and contribute to support structures and network-building opportunities for study and career development, including mentorship, portfolio and CV development.
  4. Pursue high-level research and collaborative projects, contributing to a robust research culture.

What We Seek:

  1. Strong, innovative research practice with research interests aligned with themes of the programme.
  2. Experience in teaching and supporting research projects at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  3. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse curriculum and learning environment.
