Work-Life Balance
This position offers a Monday-Friday schedule (8:15 am - 4:30 pm) with time off during the summer months.
As a Content Area Teacher, you will use your expertise in your content area (e.g., English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Music, Fine Arts) to engage and inspire students. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Instruction (75%)
- Plan, develop, and deliver lesson plans tailored to the individual needs of your students, based on their IEPs.
- Work closely with the Special Education Teacher to ensure instruction aligns with each student's learning needs and goals.
- Create a safe, positive classroom environment that fosters engagement, social interaction, and self-motivation.
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate various learning styles and developmental stages.
Collaboration (10%)
- Engage in collaboration with parents, staff, and other educational professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Participate in IEP meetings, team planning sessions, and school-based events to discuss student progress and strategies for growth.
Documentation (15%)
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and any other required documentation.
- Assist with compliance reports and progress reports for IEP meetings.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
- Illinois Teaching License in your content area (required).
- Experience with students with emotional disabilities and/or autism is preferred.
- Two years of experience working with students with emotional disabilities or in a special education setting is a plus.
Skills & Knowledge
- Expertise in your content area (e.g., English, Math, Science, etc.).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic computer tools.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, at a professional level.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment.
- Mental: Ability to plan and implement lessons for students with emotional disabilities and adjust teaching methods as needed.
- Physical: Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and occasionally assist with classroom management activities. Must be able to supervise students indoors and outdoors.
