About the Job

The University of Minnesota Medical School, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Neurosciences in the Twin Cities, seeks outstanding applicants for an open rank faculty position. A focus area of this search is glaucoma, including neurodegeneration and neuroprotection, regulation of intraocular pressure and aqueous humor dynamics, molecular and genetic basis of glaucoma, and novel therapies. In addition, candidates focusing on retinal biology and disease are encouraged to apply, e.g., related to cell biology, genetics, neurobiology, vascular biology, glia, immunology, or novel therapies. An attractive start-up package will be provided. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level are expected to have postdoctoral training and first-author publications in relevant research. Senior candidates are expected to have a proven track record of scholarship and federal grant funding. The successful candidate will maintain a nationally and internationally recognized basic and/or translational research program. Duties will include teaching/mentoring graduate students, medical students, and postdoctoral trainees, as well as service on the institutional and national level. The campus provides excellent facilities for biomedical research, including Imaging Center, Genomics Center, Viral Vector Core, Bioinformatics Support, Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, Flow Cytometry facility, Transgenic Facility, and Center for MS and Proteomics.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will have a PhD and/or MD degree, or equivalent, in the research areas described below. Training, experience, publications, funding record, a detailed research plan, and demonstrated interest in graduate and post-doctoral education will be essential components of the application.

This position is posted at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor ranks. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience based on the University of Minnesota Medical School faculty pay scales.

About the Department

The missions of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences are research, teaching, service, and provision of excellent clinical service. Primary academic missions of the department are to teach graduate students, medical students, post-M.D. trainees (residents and fellows) and students in allied health programs and to advance knowledge in ophthalmology through basic scientific and clinical research endeavors.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:

$120,000-$155,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience Time Appointment:
