Communications Director

The
Communications Director
is responsible for overseeing and leading internal and external communications activities agency-wide, including supervising Seneca’s Communications Specialist. This position collaborates with agency executive leadership to develop and implement a coordinated communication and marketing strategy that reflects Seneca’s mission, vision, and priorities.

Responsibilities
Communication Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with Seneca's mission and goals.
Executive Communications: Support executive leadership by creating compelling messaging for all staff communications, internal monthly newsletter, significant program announcements, external op-eds, etc.
Content Creation: Create and curate compelling content for various channels, including website, social media, newsletters, press releases, and marketing collateral.
Brand Management: Ensure consistent branding across all communications and maintain brand guidelines
Digital Marketing: Oversee the organization's digital marketing efforts, including website management, SEO optimization, and social media campaigns.
Public Relations: Develop and manage public relations campaigns to highlight Seneca's impact and successes and monitor and protect Seneca's reputation and brand image.
Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure media coverage and raise Seneca's profile. Manage paid and earned media placement.
Crisis Communication: When required, handle reputation management and crisis communications by providing timely and accurate information to the public, stakeholders, and the media.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather information and insights for communication purposes. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with teams across the organization – particularly HR and Development – and serve as their communications partner.
Measurement and Reporting: Develop comprehensive tracking and reporting system to track and analyze communication efforts, generate reports, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Supervise the Communications Specialist and support their professional development.
Perform all other duties and special projects as needed.
Qualifications REQUIRED:
Experience/education requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Associate degree + 1 years of applicable experience OR
High school diploma + 2 years of applicable experience
Applicable work experience includes relevant experience in a Communications role.
Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience with communications, public relations, and marketing in a relevant organizational context.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
Demonstrated commitment to integrating DEI and an anti-oppressive lens to communications and the work environment.
Travel to Seneca's Oakland office will be required as needed. Travel required 2-3 times a month around the Bay Area; travel required once a month to other regions.
TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements.
Proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination or an HR-approved medical/religious exemption.
PREFERRED:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in communications, digital marketing, social media management, and public relations.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
