Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary The Director of Creative Services and Social Media for Football will report to the Director of Communications and Brand Strategy for Football while working closely with the Department's Assistant AD for Communications and Creative Strategy and Senior Associate AD for External Affairs and Strategic Communications. The person in this position will be a social media expert, strategizing and creating social media and creative content plans with the Football Communications Director, football staff and others, while creating year-round content including videos, text, photos and graphics or social media and managing all Football social media accounts (X, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and others). Serves as a member of the Football-focused creative team that includes full-time and student videographers and graphic designers. Must be a skilled content creator with the ability to create compelling videos, text and graphics for social media use on deadline with the goal of engaging multiple constituencies, maximizing revenue and positively helping recruiting. Utilizes analytics to report on success and reach of social media content. This is a fast-paced and strategic job where accuracy and the ability to tell the stories of Carolina Football authentically is an essential. This position will attend and engage in Brand Management meetings with representatives from units including Marketing, Go Heels Productions, Creative Services and Tar Heel Sports Properties to proactively plan and engage communications about events with the goals of outstanding reach, revenue, and recruiting. Attends all games and practices. Responsible for high level collaboration with emphasis on creativity and organizational skills. Must meet tight deadlines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Bachelor's degree required in discipline related to the area of assignment, or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Substantial experience and work in social media communications. Substantial experience in content creation and publication with ability to tell stories through video, graphics, photos, and writing. Strong creative skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding organization skills, including keen sense of design. Ability to meet tight deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Suite, Photoshop. Knowledge and compliance with NCAA, ACC, and University rules.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience 3-4 years working in full-time athletics or professional sports communications, particularly social media, and creative services/content creation.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Attention to detail and computer skills essential. Must be able to manage a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
