Amazon Publisher Services (APS) seeks a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) with strong technical, analytical, and business intelligence skill sets and experience to be a key partner for Amazon’s Advertising business, focusing on third party supply. This individual will be a key contributor in building out business insights, analysis, and BI infrastructure. In this role, the BIE will influence the direction of the business by leveraging Amazon Ads data to deliver insights that drive decisions and actions. This role involves translating broad business problems into specific analytics projects, conducting deep quantitative analyses, and communicating results effectively. There is a high potential for growth in this role as we transform our data into actionable insights that continue to fuel the growth of this business. The role will help the APS organization identify, evaluate, and evangelize new techniques and tools to continue to improve our ability to deliver value to Amazon’s Customers.

This role requires an individual with excellent business, communication, and technical skills, enabling collaboration with various cross-functional partners. A successful candidate is a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and complex datasets, and solving business problems. This individual must have strong ownership and an ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and high-energy environment.

Key job responsibilities

Define data requirements, translate business problems into data questions and build new metrics to draw business insights

Design, develop, build, and maintain scalable data solutions, including infrastructure, pipeline, reporting, to support long-term business strategies

Explore and deep dive into new areas across various programs as well as business functions to support business decision making

Work cross-functionally with other teams in various job families to gather data sources to provide a comprehensive view of the business, inclusive of supply, demand, sales, etc.

Present analytical findings and make business recommendations to senior leadership

Conduct best practices in reporting/analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation

Develop exploratory analyses including use of statistical techniques and explore emerging technologies such as ML to build models and tools used by management for decision making

Simplify and re-invent current data solutions to support the business scope expansion

Amazon Publisher Services helps digital publishers around the world build and grow thriving businesses. We provide services and advanced technologies to web, mobile app, and streaming TV publishers of all sizes, to help them monetize their content with demand from Amazon and other programmatic buyers. Our server-side header bidding solutions are fast and reliable across devices, handling billions of queries per day, delivering ads in milliseconds. The result is more profitable advertising for publishers and more relevant ads for customers.

Basic Qualifications

Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

Knowledge of SQL and data warehousing concepts

Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Athena, MySQL etc. experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Experience in understanding and translating ambiguous and complex business problems into data solutions and presenting findings to leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
