Summary:
VCU's College ofHumanities and Sciences is the foundation of educational and intellectual lifeat Virginia Commonwealth University, and houses the core disciplines in thenatural sciences, social sciences and humanities. We are the largest unit atVCU, and are made up of 18 departments, three schools, and multiple programs,centers and institutes. Every year, we serve more than 10,000 students, andnearly 60% of VCU undergraduates have at least one major in the College. Wealso have the largest alumni base, with 66,000 alumni and growing.
Reporting to theDirector of Communications for the College of Humanities and Sciences, and incoordination with DAR's Assistant Vice President for Strategic Marketing andEngagement and CHS's Director of Development, the
Alumni CommunicationsSpecialist
will enhance VCU's fundraising and alumni engagement capacity bydeveloping, conceiving, crafting and executing messaging that supportsinstitutional priorities for alumni, student and parent engagement, stewardshipand fundraising.

Typical Duties
In this role you will: •Write alumni, donor and scholarship recipient profiles and Q&As •Create social media content around alumni, donors and scholarship recipients •Create graphics and video content to highlight alumni and alumni programming •Assist with content creation (copy, interviews, video and photography) for Giving Day •Schedule, manage and draft alumni newsletter content submissions for departments/dean's office •Write campaign one-pagers •Assist with donor proposals •Create customized communications for donor stewardship
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
•A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field is required, as well as equivalent knowledge and experience. •One to three years of experience in journalism, public relations or fundraising, emphasizing higher education or nonprofit setting. •Demonstrated experience in interviewing and writing. •Superior grammar, spelling and editing skills and superior knowledge of AP Style. •Excellent written and verbal communication skills. •Aptitude to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. •Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. •Ability to communicate and present ideas accurately and clearly. •Adaptable, proactive, deadline-driven, results-oriented, highly organized and detail-oriented •Enjoy working within a fast-paced, performance-based professional environment •Self-starter who can succeed with general direction and exercise independent judgment •Trustworthiness to serve as a brand ambassador and to handle issues or escalate as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience writing fundraising communications in an educational environment. •Experience writing copy for social media. •Experience with basic video editing and video content creation
