Job Description
The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the communications and social media strategy of the Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) Extension program in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR). This position creates and distributes engaging content across various platforms and monitors the effectiveness of these communications to boost program participation across the 66+ counties served by PVAMU Extension.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities: Works with PVAMU Extension staff to plan, produce, and edit high-quality and relevant content that showcases the achievements, events, stories, and impact of the PVAMU Extension program, educational outreach activities, and community events. Creates, edits, and formats various print and digital materials, including brochures, invitations, ads, flyers, newsletters, articles, speeches, and reports. Manages and updates the PVAMU Extension website and social media accounts, ensuring consistency in tone, style, and branding. Reviews, edits, and updates website content, providing it to the information technology team for publishing. Coordinates and collaborates with PVAMU Extension staff, faculty, partners, and stakeholders to identify and generate content ideas and opportunities. Works with the communications creative team to help with messaging for digital and print advertising, as well as other platforms as needed. Conducts research and interviews to gather information and data for content creation. Manages, plans, implements, and promotes special events and programs. Develops communication plans and produce related promotional materials. Ensures all content is visually appealing and adheres to NIFA and university brand guidelines and required acknowledgements. Ensures all materials offer language support and accommodations for people who are learning English or have communication disabilities, including translation services, interpretation services, large print materials, audio tape, and more. Stays abreast of the latest trends, developments, and best practices in communications and social media, applying them to the PVAMU Extension program. Plans and executes the overall communication strategy for the Extension unit in collaboration with Program Leaders and the communications unit. Develops and maintains a content calendar and schedule for regular and timely posting and distribution of content for PVAMU Extension programs. Maintains an efficient planning and tracking system for project timelines and costs to ensure the consistent flow of daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly output. Keep track of project deadlines and expenses. Tracks and reports on the metrics and analytics of communications and social media activities, using tools such as Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and Instagram Analytics. Evaluates and assesses the effectiveness and impact of the communications and social media strategy and campaigns, providing suggestions for improvement. Participates in college-wide activities, committees, and performs other duties as necessary to support the overall mission and goals of the college. Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree. Five years of communications and/or marketing experience. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Job Posting Close Date:
