Berkeley Lab is hiring a

Student Education and Communications Assistant

to join the Government and Community Relations (GCR) Office and K-12 Programs Team. This role supports STEM events for K-12 students and creates engaging content for K-12 education media. Responsibilities include writing copy, editing, developing content, and managing the K-12 website and social media. The position also involves supporting outreach events and workshops for high school students. The role reports to the Director of K-12 Programs, with part-time training in spring (20 hours per week), transitioning to full-time in summer. The position is expected to last at least one year, with potential for extension.

What You Will Do:

Create and distribute monthly newsletters Monitor new subscribers and analyze social media data Develop and schedule engaging social media content Support onsite events and online webinars/career talks Assist with offsite educational visits as needed What is Required:

Full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing Experience and/or passion for science/STEM education and outreach to K-12 students Completed coursework in STEM fields Strong writing, editing, and public speaking skills Proficient in office software (e.g., Canva, MS Word, Excel, Google apps) Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality work Skilled in social media communication Able to work both independently and in teams Capable of multitasking in a dynamic environment Notes:

This is a part-time (transitioning to full-time in summer), 1 year student assistant appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. The hourly range for this position is $18.67 - $24.39. The final hourly rate is dependent on years of education completed. Applicants should note that they are responsible for covering their own housing and travel expenses. This position may be subject to a background check. As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct, are currently being investigated for misconduct, left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct, or have filed an appeal with a previous employer. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. This position will need to be on site at least 1 day per week in the spring and fall and up to 4 days per week during the summer. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
