General Purpose: Under general supervision, performs moderately skilled clerical and technical support activities in the operation of the City's library.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
  • Drives the library bookmobile to designated locations, ensuring timely and safe arrivals and departures.
  • Serves as part of the library's outreach team.
  • Maintains a record of bookmobile visits, including number of patrons served and materials checked out.
  • Conducts regular visual maintenance checks on the bookmobile to ensure it is in good working order. Report any mechanical issues to management promptly.
  • Coordinates with library staff to ensure bookmobile has relevant materials and collections suited to customer's preferences and requests.
  • Develops, coordinates and administers library programs and special projects under the Librarian's direction.
  • Serves customers at the circulation desk performing such activities as check-in and check-out of library materials and customer registration.
  • Searches for books by titles, authors and subject; places items on hold.
  • Promotes library events, services, and programs to community members
  • Assists with community outreach efforts, including promoting library services at community events and local schools
  • Participates in library committees and trainings.
  • Leads and assists with training and providing daily direction to volunteer staff.
  • Assists in collection preservation and processing of lost books.
  • Assists with weeding of library collection.
  • Shelves library materials and ensures their proper order
  • Answers telephone and routes calls as appropriate. Processes telephone renewals.
  • Provides information concerning materials and library procedures to library customers.
  • Collects fines and payments from customers.
  • Calls customers regarding overdue library materials and mails overdue notices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications & Position Requirements
Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of customer service or library setting experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • City policies and procedures.
  • Standard library practices and procedures.
  • Polaris library automation software.
Skill in:
  • Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
  • Providing effective customer service with tact and courtesy.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees and the general public.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.
Additional Information
Special Requirements: Valid Arizona Driver's License.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, Weekends & Holidays may be required

Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in a Public Library.

Reports To: Library Superintendent

Supervision Exercised: May provide direction to library volunteers.

FLSA Status: Non-exempt
12-Month Goals:
  • Build relationships with community leaders to explore new locations for bookmobile stops or special events.
  • Develop a customer feedback system (e.g., surveys or comment cards) to gather input from patrons about the bookmobile experience.
  • Test new routes based on patron needs and feedback to ensure the bookmobile is effectively reaching underserved areas.
  • Pursue knowledge on new library technologies, mobile library trends, or community engagement strategies that can be incorporated into the bookmobile service.
  • Help create or refine bookmobile-specific procedures to enhance safety, customer service, and operational effectiveness.
