This position works as a Tier 2 Enterprise Cable Infrastructure Engineer (NTA-II) that plays a vital role in ensuring our IT network infrastructure remains reliable, efficient, and scalable. Under the general supervision of the Enterprise Cable Infrastructure Manager this position supports the Enterprise Cable Infrastructure team with an all-round understanding of the County's Cable TV video and inside plant / outside plant (ISP/OSP) infrastructure.
Requires hands-on experience with various cabling systems, including Ethernet, coaxial, and fiber optics. This involves tasks such as installation, maintenance, and management of cabling systems, as well as handling moves, additions, and changes (MACs). The position assists senior engineers in monitoring and testing of the I-Net TV video system as well as the cabling's performance to maintain optimal functionality and adhere to industry standards. A strong understanding of cabling technologies, excellent organizational skills, and effective communication are essential for coordinating with teams and stakeholders to support operational goals and technological advancements.
Responsibilities include:
Cable Troubleshooting and Support: Provide support for cable related incidents, tickets, problems, and change requests. Perform initial triage and analysis of Cable TV services and cable related incidents, ensuring timely resolution or escalation to management. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues and outages. Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers to enhance their troubleshooting skills and knowledge. Implementation and Deployment: Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of cabling infrastructure across enterprise facilities. Coordinate with stakeholders, contractors and vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality installation of cabling components. Conduct site surveys and assessments to identify and resolve potential implementation challenges. Design and Planning: Lead or assist the senior engineers with stakeholders to assess network requirements and develop comprehensive cabling infrastructure designs. Review detailed construction plans and specifications for the installation of CAT6 / 6A, coaxial, and fiber optics cabling systems. Ensure designs comply with Division 27 - Communication design guide, cabling standards, such as Telecomm, Industry Standards/Electronic Industry Alliance (TIA/EIA) & ISO IEC 11801, , organizational policies, and regulatory requirements, such as), National Electrical Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health administration (OSHA), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Documentation, Compliance and Quality Assurance: Maintain accurate documentation of ISP / OSP cabling designs, configurations, and as-built drawings. Consult senior engineers to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications, regulatory regulations, and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle. Conduct quality assurance checks and audits to verify adherence to design specifications and performance requirements. Project Management: Lead or assist in managing project timelines and resources to ensure project milestones are met. Lead or assist in developing project plans, schedules, and progress reports to communicate status updates to management and stakeholders. Mitigate risks and resolve issues that may impact the successful implementation of cabling projects. Lifting, climbing and driving are all activities required of this position. Participates in the on-call support rotation. Performs other duties as assigned. Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: A valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with fiber optic cabling, GIS-based OSP mapping applications, splicing documentation, optical monitoring, and testing. Familiarity with Cable TV video headend distribution, nodes, and testing, as well as expertise in various types of cabling and terminations, is an advantage. Candidates with prior project lead experience or a PMP certification (or equivalent). A BICSI Technician, BICSI Installer, or equivalent certification. Experience working within a federal or local government setting, particularly in support of public service agency business branches such as public safety, taxation, libraries, and human services, will be considered a strong asset.
