The following position is to join our RTX Corporate, Enterprise Services, Research Center or BBN team:
EM Motor Design Engineer job description
Raytheon Technologies is looking to hire a full time Electromagnetic (EM) Motor Design and Project Engineer within the Precision Mechanism and Controls department for their Missiles & Defense business located in Tucson, Arizona. In this position, the candidate will be responsible for developing technical solutions and working with suppliers to develop high performance Brushed DC (BDC), Brushless DC (BLDC) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) Experience is sought in electric motor developments for high performance actuation systems and motion control.
Prospective candidates must be able to design electromagnetics for permanent magnet BDC, BLDC, and PMSM motors as well as critically evaluate other motor supplier’s designs. The candidate should additionally have a working knowledge of preferred motor design and construction details, but would not be expected to be the sole mechanical designer. Prospective candidates will have technical ownership of all motor designs (including procured designs) and will be the technical expert on all motor related issues including recommending manufacturing and inspection work instructions and supporting failure investigations.
The motor design engineer will be responsible for specification, design, development of fractional horsepower to several HP electric motors including, BLDC, PMSM, brushed motors; design and analysis of PM electric motors for low voltage, high voltage (270V dc), high altitude, and military temperature range environments. Design and analysis will include material selection, electromagnetics, electrical and thermal aspects. The position will work with mechanical engineering staff to perform mechanical design, analysis and drawings. Additionally, the position will be responsible for the project engineering of procured electric motors.
Day-to-day activities are highly collaborative, both internally across disciplines as well as externally with suppliers, partners and customers. Hands-on opportunity is plentiful, as great emphasis is put on exposing designers to the hardware through participation in prototype building and verification testing, thus enabling firsthand knowledge of system performance. The position is expected to interact with a wide range of engineering and non-engineering disciplines in a matrix organization.
