WQXE/WULF Radio in Elizabethtown is seeking a highly motivated Radio Broadcast & I.T. Technician to join our team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring seamless broadcast operations and maintaining the technical infrastructure that supports our two radio stations. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with strong technical skills, including I.T. system management, networking, and the ability to quickly learn broadcasting technology/equipment.
Schedule: Part time with possibility of Full time in the future
Job Duties:
- Responsible for setting up and maintaining technical equipment for our two radio stations located in Elizabethtown.
- Performs skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, modification and support of wired and wireless communication computers and equipment, as well as FM broadcasting network systems and RF (Radio Frequency) equipment.
- Helps ensure high quality of broadcast transmission and reception, monitoring the stations to ensure they meet Federal Communications Commission (FCC) standards.
- Responsible for ensuring stations remain on-air continuously, without technical hiccups that could affect production or transmission.
- Works in studios, equipment rooms and travels to transmitter sites to perform maintenance, repair and upgrades.
- Will be on-call, expected to receive and follow up on system alarms, shutdowns and calls from on-air talent. This can happen during off hours, weekends or holidays. Note: Most of the troubleshooting and getting stations “back on air” can be done remotely.
- Will often spend a lot of time working on IT systems, as radio broadcasting relies heavily on IT and computers. This includes helping resolve issues with the local network/server and resolving radio automation software issues.
- Will learn about sound boards, sound processing equipment, transmitter equipment, remote broadcasting equipment and radio automation software. Will be expected to become a local expert in these areas.
- Responsible for setting up and maintaining our I.T. / Computer systems that aid in both the radio station and business operation. Will help resolve employees “computer issues” when they arise.
- Collaborate with others to integrate software and digital solutions into broadcast operations.
- Assure proper preventative maintenance is being performed on all equipment. Assist in budgeting for new equipment and technology upgrades.
Desired Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
- Ability to learn and understand how radio equipment works and how it is all interconnected.
- IT experience, with knowledge of system administration, networking, desktop support and minor computer repairs.
- Strong understanding of basic electrical and audio equipment connection/wiring principles will be important to either have or be able to quickly learn.
- Good communication skills necessary, both with internal employees and external vendors.
- Ability to understand both analog and digital technologies.
- Ability to drive/respond to remote transmitter sites (furthest away is Irvington, KY). Note: This is NOT very frequently.
