Introduction
As a Senior News Writer you will join a team of in-house journalists responsible for producing high-quality content about not just IBM but the tech sector at large, with a particular emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI). This role requires a deep understanding of AI technologies, trends and their implications for businesses and society. You will also have experience covering the business of technology and have established relationships far and wide. And you will be ready the moment industry news breaks to translate it for our audience, combining our tone and voice with authentic, credible reporting to uphold our brand as a trusted voice in the technology space.
Your role and responsibilities
IBM Think is IBM’s omnichannel media and events hub, bringing together content that generates awareness, engagement, impact and new digital relationships with visitors and clients. We’re building a team of creators, writers, journalists and technologists who can help people better understand and successfully adopt emerging technologies. We’ll do this by producing exclusive, high-quality content—explainers, feature articles, thought leadership, industry news and analysis, podcasts, newsletters, tutorials, demos and more—that help visitors make sense of new technologies and new ways or working, and connect them to ways IBM can help.
Your primary responsibilities will be to:
Research, write, and edit articles, reports, and feature stories on technology trends, innovations, and industry news
Develop exclusive stories and interviews with internal and external thought leaders
Build and maintain a network of industry contacts for insights and interviews
Monitor industry developments, including breakthroughs in AI and related fields
Stay informed on AI's evolving regulatory, ethical, and societal challenges
Contribute to the development of content strategies that enhance the company’s reputation as a thought leader in AI and broader technology sectors
Analyze content performance metrics to refine storytelling approaches.
Learn and observe IBM style and content standards across all content
Required technical and professional expertise
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, advertising, English or related field
6+ years’ experience as a writer, editor or contributor for an IT or business publication, or for a creative agency servicing IT industry clients
Strong research, interviewing, storytelling and pitching skills
General understanding of IT concepts, particularly in the areas of AI, data management, digital automation and cloud computing
Focus on AI, automation, hybrid cloud and data
Collaboration with marketing stakeholders to align content with priority events, product launches and campaigns
Must be able to identify emerging industry trends and story opportunities
Must be comfortable sourcing and conducting interviews, building relationships with your sources
Writing samples in news articles, feature stories and analysis
Preferred technical and professional experience
Demonstrated success applying writing skills to in-house corporate/marketing content (with samples)
Familiarity with content management systems (especially Adobe Experience Manager)
Experience developing story and content ideas from industry research and data (data journalism)
Writing samples in enterprise/B2B newsletter copy
Must be comfortable working in project management tools like Airtable, Monday, Jira, etc.
