Summary

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Creative Services, this position is responsible for the photographic needs of Brown University Health and its partners and affiliates. Responsible for maintaining photographic equipment and inventory of the image library stored on Intelligence Bank along with developing Brown University Health’s online and offline photography guidelines. Uses a variety of photographic equipment such as cameras, lights, scanners, printers, computers, and various software programs and based on knowledge and experience chooses the most appropriate equipment and software for each photograph.

Responsibilities

  1. Regularly functions as photographer primarily supporting the Marketing/Communications and Development departments in support of corporate and partner initiatives. Photos are used in a broad range of materials including websites, social media, press releases, marketing collateral, brochures, displays, newsletters, and advertisements (both internal and public facing).
  2. Photographs various subjects including clinical, surgical, patient portraiture, partner events, facilities, and presentations, both in a studio and other locations.
  3. Highly-skilled in color correction and image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop.
  4. Performs studio and location photography.
  5. Scans, corrects, and provides electronic files or prints as needed.
  6. Develops and maintains an image library using a computer image database and conventional filing system.
  7. Monitors inventory of photographic equipment and is responsible for its safety.
  8. Sets up and operates photographic equipment, performs minor maintenance and repairs; provides for outside service as appropriate.
  9. Manages photography schedule to meet production deadlines.
  10. Develops, maintains, and enforces photographic standards for all communication materials in accordance with Brown University Health corporate brand guidelines.
  11. Creates and maintains electronic and paper departmental project/collateral files.
  12. Maintains database information depicting the status of work-in-progress.
  13. Participates in planning, reviewing, and exchanging information related to assignments.
  14. Participates in ongoing independent study, research, and education-related professional activities and affiliations to maintain current knowledge of developments in the field of photography.
  15. Collaborates with communications, marketing, and media personnel to ensure satisfaction of external and internal customers. Performs duties in accordance with the mission of Brown University Health to improve the health status of the people we serve in Rhode Island and New England through customer-friendly, geographically accessible, and high-value services.
  16. Collaborates with other department members—designers, writers, project managers, and marketing officers.
  17. Assists with film and video projects as needed.

Qualifications - Education

Degree or certificate in photography or equivalent experience.

Qualifications - Experience

  1. In-depth knowledge of visual communications arts, camera selection and operation, lighting techniques, and digital photographic technology.
  2. Minimum of seven years job-related work experience, preferably including experience in the healthcare industry, with a portfolio to demonstrate a broad and diverse scope of photographic work.
  3. In-depth knowledge of Macintosh technology including software programs such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge.
  4. Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to effectively and independently coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; ability to adapt to and take full advantage of changing technology.
  5. Interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of partner and corporate personnel.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Manual dexterity, visual acuity, and technical skills to operate and maintain a variety of photographic equipment such as cameras and lighting.

Physical ability for considerable walking, often pushing or carrying moderately heavy equipment.
