Job Summary

The Executive Chef is responsible for the culinary quality, service, and experience of all aspects, outlets, and venues of the operation, including, but not limited to, cafes and catering. Motivates, coaches, develops, and directs team members to deliver delicious, nutritious food, exceptional service, and accomplish daily goals and projects. This position oversees the daily administrative and operational tasks, including financial management and analysis, sanitation, and safety. Menu development, client interaction, and overall catering and special events experiences across all venues on the DC campus are also key responsibilities.

The Executive Chef will focus on culinary excellence and the catering experience for the Food at Google program in order to support operational excellence. This position reports to the onsite General Manager with dotted line accountability to the Regional Chef and will leverage strong hospitality and operational skills to partner with key stakeholders (culinary, nutrition, marketing, behavioral science, concept development, procurement, risk management, client interaction, event planning, operations, and people approach) to promote standards, Food at Google expectations, and enhance user (partner) experience.

This role is based in Washington D.C.

The great things you will be expected to do:

  • Design, lead, and own the overall catering and culinary experience, not just the offerings.
  • Have a passion for quality food preparation and taste.
  • Follow all menu and production/prep expectations and guides, opening/closing checklist, and responsibility guides.
  • Prepare well-balanced meals to fuel Googlers through the day.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly pop-up events, surprising and delighting with station takeovers.
  • Set an expectation of hospitality that is friendly and engaging.
  • Train and develop team members.
  • Ensure employee reviews, coaching sessions, and disciplinary actions are delivered in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure that all products and ingredients used are purchased following sector and Food at Google purchasing standards and sustainability commitments.
  • Implement and adhere to all sector and Compass employee guidelines.
  • Promote a culture of food and workplace safety.
  • Treat all customers with professionalism, care, and respect.
  • Communicate with our partner honestly, accurately, and in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Culinary Arts preferred or equivalent professional experience.
  • 6-8 years of related experience in upscale food service and catering operations, including 3 years at the management level.
  • Strong passion for great food and hospitality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Maintain a positive attitude under pressure and motivate the team.
  • MUST be able to act in collaboration with the General Manager as operating partner and provide short, medium, and long-term concerns and opportunities to evolve the business and team.
  • Working knowledge of GSuite platform including Sheets, Slides, Docs & Gmail.
  • Possess general hospitality knowledge and interest in sustainability and sustainable food practices.
  • Lead time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines for team and individual.
  • Ability to follow all Health & Safety standards.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
