Content Summary: Senior Grant Writer – OR | WA | Hybrid at Washington, for Akana (Cooper Zietz Engineers, Inc.) Akana, a Native American-owned multi-discipline consulting firm with a diverse portfolio of clients and projects throughout the United States, is seeking to add a Staff Grant Writer to our firm. This position is full time. As a Senior Grant Writer , you will be a professional who works to secure funding for Native American Tribal projects in the infrastructure, economic development, and natural resources areas. General Responsibilities are: Write highly persuasive and competitive grant applications. Manage multiple grant applications simultaneously and independently plan workload to meet grant deadlines. Manage grant projects, from project setup to client invoicing and closeout. Work closely with senior managers and team members and follow Akana’s grant preparation process. Inform and guide Akana team members and clients during grant preparation process. Maintain positive relationships with team members, clients, and funding agencies. The minimum required qualifications for this position are shown below: Excellent writing skills and ability to develop concise, articulate, and compelling grant applications that rely on evidence and project facts. 5-10 years of experience with completing foundation, state, and federal grant applications in the above areas. Experience with federal grants from Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Department of Energy (DOE), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), and Economic Development Administration (EDA) are preferred. Experience with self-directed research on local, state, or national plans, reports, and other evidence to enhance grant application narrative. Experience with most, if not all, aspects of grant applications including technical narratives, budgeting, standard forms, and developing graphics and maps at the levels required for competitive grants. Experience with seeking, and working with, technical subject matter experts to help develop technical scopes of work, budgets, and timelines adequate for grant applications. Focused organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks well when working on multiple grants and against multiple deadlines. Adept and comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline driven, work environment. Attuned to, and comfortable with, a collaborative team-work approach to completing grant applications from beginning through submittal. Experience working and communicating directly with clients on grant projects. Open, diligent, responsive, and personable communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and others. Preferred Qualifications: Higher education degree or work experience as a planner, architect, engineer, construction management, environmental scientist, or in other technical areas. Experience with Native American Tribes. The salary for this position is competitive and based on experience, location, and education. Range will be from 95K – 115K.
