Full-time Organist/Director of Music

St. Philip Neri Church, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444

Vibrant parish in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, PA seeks a full-time Organist/Director of

Music. Required skills include a strong background in Catholic Liturgy and the ability to serve

as organist at Sunday Masses, Holydays, Funerals, Weddings and to direct Adult Choir. Must be

skilled at organ, piano, and conducting. Be an active part of the parish team and be on “the

same page”. Individuals who are able to fulfill only one of the positions will be considered.

Music Program

  • Report directly to the Pastor
  • Oversee the parish music program
  • Proficient in organ, piano and directing

Liturgies

  • Plan music in advance for parish weekend liturgies
  • Play all parish weekend Liturgies or arrange for coverage of same: 5:00 PM, 9:30 AM & 11:00 AM
  • Plan and prepare off-season program with cantors/musicians
  • Plan and prepare the musical aspects of special liturgies and work with DRE and School

Music Director

  • Maintain a repertoire which supports the Sacred Liturgy and encourages the involvement of the assembly
  • Manage liturgical music for weddings and funerals, including guiding the selection of

readings/music for these celebrations; contracting musicians, etc.

  • Recruit, train and schedule cantors and accompanying musicians
  • Recruit and select choir members through personal contact, witness, publicity and other
  • Conduct 1 weekly rehearsal, Adult Choir sings approximately 2x month
  • Research music and purchase for choir use, select and introduce new music into the

Professional Development

  • DMM needs basic information about the Catholic Liturgy, study of liturgical theology
  • Participate in all staff and other key parish meetings.
