Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst

who will be responsible for activities associated with the department's GIS databases, applications, and tools. The GIS Analyst is involved in creating, maintaining, and supporting GIS data and related products, including maps of campus, documentation, and geospatial web applications. The GIS Analyst is responsible for planning, managing, and leading GIS projects, with the guidance of the Johns Hopkins Public Safety IT Manager, and by communicating with stakeholders to understand and define the project requirements. The GIS Analyst presents and instructs department and public users of GIS products, systems, and services, on their proper usage, functionality, and interpretation. Presentations and communications should be expected in large, medium, and small meetings, both with department staff and the wider University community, and individual troubleshooting scenarios. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Interface with other University-wide data interest groups to promote awareness of data resources, products and services among staff and University offices through outreach and embedded activities. Develop and lead instructional sessions for Johns Hopkins Public Safety staff about the use of various GIS data resources and tools, and best practices for data access, collection, management, and preservation with a targeted focus on utility and construction planning data. Publicly present, explain, and demo departmental GIS or data topics and products in person and/or virtually at small, medium, and large events. Manage, edit, deliver, and support GIS, SDE, and SQL databases and related datasets, feature classes, and layers. Ensure records are updated and accurate. Prepare written documentation of GIS systems, such as Standard Operating Procedures, and participate in cross-training/knowledge sharing with colleagues and end users. Produce detailed maps on request by extracting and manipulating data from GIS databases. Produce detailed maps for Security risk assessments and security upgrade projects. Maintain and update information for security related endpoints within GIS databases and enterprise building maps. Design and create geodatabases, develop content and provide training. Develop processes, document workflows, and identify and define repetitive tasks that are candidates for automation or delegation. Coordinate with project managers and IT colleagues. Work with other Johns Hopkins GIS staff on GIS tasks in coordination with the JHPS IT Manager. Edit and maintain cartographic representations in GIS products. Provide support for JHPS real-time mapping applications. Perform quality control checks of spatial data, web maps, and geo-based applications. Participate in geo-data repository data evaluations, metadata creation/updates, data loading, and troubleshooting. Conduct GIS field work using GPS and mobile-mapping devices to support updating, editing, and improving Facilities' GIS. Support operations and software installations/maintenance. Maintain floor plan conversion process. Act as data publisher for Facilities' mapping portal. Effectively manage multiple responsibilities and tasks with varying deadlines and priorities. Work independently on a range of GIS tasks with minimal direct supervision. Monitor the landscape of GIS data management plans and design support services to respond to these requirements. Develop and maintain awareness of data-centered strategies and technologies across Ivy-plus universities and attend relevant conferences and workshops for continuing professional development. Conduct informal and formal service- and resource- needs' assessments of assigned departments in an interactive, ongoing fashion, and communicate these needs via committees and various channels. Develop program for curriculum-based instructions sessions about GIS information resources and topics for assigned users or departments. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities Demonstrated public speaking or presentation experience. Strong organizational, project/process management, and data management and analysis skills. Interest in learning, using, and demonstrating software systems/technologies; service-orientation. Ability to effectively collaborate and build consensus with a diverse group. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree. Twenty-four (24) credits of coursework in GIS, Information systems, databases, or computer science completed at an accredited institution as part of a higher education certificate or degree. Three (3) years' experience with GIS or geospatial technology. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years' experience with Esri's ArcGIS Pro and extensions. Two (2) years' experience with AutoCAD and/or Archibus. One (1) year of experience with SaaS platforms. One (1) year experience with ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online. Experience with Microsoft Office, Python, SQL, ArcGIS ModelBuilder, and ArcSDE. Experience with managing GIS and surveying projects using Esri geoprocessing tools. Experience with GIS or other field survey data collection. Strong analytical, mathematical, and logic thinking and problem-solving skills. Experience with Video Management Systems (Avigilon, Flir, FUSUS, Indigo, or Victor). Experience with Computer Aided Dispatch Systems (ARMS, Central Square, and/or Motorola). Experience with access control or alarm monitoring systems (CCURE 9000, Honeywell, Lynx, Midmark RTLS).
