The company is currently seeking a Director of Design reporting to the CEO/President and based in E&S Ring’s offices in West Los Angeles.

Job Scope

This is a full-time position at a third-generation family-owned, successful, and profitable middle market company specializing in the California multifamily apartment space with assets valued at north of AUD $5 bn. The Director of Design & Brand Experience will be the visionary behind the visual and experiential identity of our luxury multi-housing communities. This role extends beyond traditional interior and exterior design; it’s about curating distinctive cohesive environments that inspire, captivate, and resonate deeply with our residents, guests and community. With an acute understanding of luxury living and a flair for artistic expression, this individual will champion the creation of unique atmospheres tailored to each property’s setting, character, and story—elevating our communities into immersive experiences of comfort and elegance. This leader will thrive in a space of autonomy, driving innovation while honoring the nuanced needs of each property. By blending art, architecture, and ambience, the Director of Design & Brand Experience will ensure our brand’s signature style and unparalleled quality are reflected in every detail, creating a seamless harmony of function and aesthetic. The final candidate will have an intimate understanding of the rules and regulations specific to different counties when designing for multi-housing projects.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Visionary Design Development: Craft and execute bespoke interior and exterior design concepts for luxury multi-housing properties, emphasizing elevated living experiences that celebrate individuality while maintaining brand cohesion.
  2. Interior spaces: Design community and amenity areas, leasing offices, model apartments, fitness centers, hallways, signage, and lighting to exude sophistication and comfort.
  3. Exterior spaces: Shape and institute outdoor areas and amenities such as pools, gardens, exterior colors, signage, and lighting to complement the natural surroundings and enhance curb appeal.
  4. Atmosphere Curation: Capture the unique spirit of each community by creating environments that reflect their local context, resident demographics, and cultural influences, while adhering to the overarching brand vision.
  5. Collaborative Innovation: Partner with architects, contractors, property managers, marketing teams and other E&S Ring Staff to ensure designs are functional, feasible, and aligned with project goals and timelines.
  6. Material and Finish Selection: Source premium materials, finishes, furnishings, colors and decor to deliver refined and cohesive aesthetics that set new benchmarks in luxury living.
  7. Budget and Scope Management: Work with property teams and other E&S Ring staff to create and manage annual budgets for design enhancements. Prepare scopes of work, oversee bidding processes, and provide recommendations for higher-value projects.
  8. Storytelling Through Design: Develop mood boards, renderings, and presentations to convey design concepts, weaving a narrative that connects residents to their living spaces.
  9. Trend Leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends, introducing innovative ideas that keep our communities competitive and aligned with evolving luxury standards and honors the original vision of the property where appropriate.
  10. Brand Consistency: Ensure each property embodies our brand’s signature aesthetic while embracing its individuality, creating a portfolio that is diverse yet cohesive.
  11. Site Oversight: Conduct regular site visits to monitor design implementation, maintain quality standards, and ensure projects exceed expectations.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Motivations

Minimum Experience, Training, and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in luxury residential or multi-family housing design.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Expertise in materials, finishes, and furnishings tailored for luxury environments.
  • Strong project management skills, balancing creativity with deadline adherence.
  • Exceptional communication skills to articulate vision and inspire stakeholders.
  • A passion for creating breathtaking, functional spaces that define modern luxury.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Certifications: NCIDQ, LEED Accreditation, WELL Building Standard Accreditation, PMP.
  • Experience: Proven success in luxury multi-family or hospitality design, integrating brand identity into physical spaces.
  • Knowledge: Sustainability practices, eco-friendly sourcing, and inclusive designs adaptable to diverse demographics.
  • Expertise: Landscaping and outdoor space design for garden-style layouts.
