Summary

The VA Amarillo Health Care System is seeking a Dermatologist for the location in Amarillo, TX.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  2. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  3. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  4. License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  5. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  6. English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  7. Preferred Experience: Board Certified Leadership skills to be able to complete ongoing professional evaluations as needed.
  8. Experience implementing policies/protocols that are required in Medicine.
  9. Experience working to improve the management of flow with dermatology patients referred from Primary Care.
  10. Physical Requirements: Light lifting, under 15 pounds; Light carrying, under 15 pounds; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking; Standing; Both legs required; Be able to see a computer; Hearing (aid may be permitted).

Duties

  1. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT & will remain open until May 14, 2025, or until all positions are filled.
  2. The first cut-off date is December 13, 2024.
  3. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.
  4. DUTIES Focuses on researching, diagnosing, and treating skin disorders and diseases.
  5. Complete patient examinations and may perform minor skin surgeries.
  6. Job duties also entail prescribing topical medication for skin problems.
  7. Performs dermatological procedures considering various factors influencing the choice of treatment.
  8. Evaluates patients by examining thoroughly; obtains appropriate clinical, laboratory, and other pertinent data to determine care.
  9. Interprets and evaluates clinical data for the purpose of determining diagnosis and clinical status.
  10. Prescribes appropriate and timely treatment; applies indicated therapeutic procedures.
  11. Recognizes and assesses changes in behavior, symptoms, signs, and other pertinent facts about the patient and modifies the treatment plan when indicated.
  12. Develops and maintains rapport with patients and relatives through competence and interpersonal skills.
  13. Responds to inpatient/outpatient consultations in a timely manner, documents consultations according to procedure.
  14. Records the History/Physical and other examinations; keeps clear, accurate, and adequate clinical records current and completed at the time of discharge.
  15. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0800 - 1630.
  16. Bargaining Unit Status: This position is part of the bargaining unit.
