About the Team
The US Press Manager will collaborate with the Global Press Team with colleagues based in London, Paris, and Hong Kong, to support global sales and aligning on press strategies. This role will also work closely with the US Marketing Team with colleagues based in Boston and Los Angeles, working in tandem to promote US auctions as effectively as possible.
The ideal candidate has an interest in cars, art, and luxury, with strong media contacts in related fields. They should be a creative thinker, to lead and enhance our brand presence in the US.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of US Communications this role will execute Press and Communications campaigns for the US auctions across its three salerooms in New York, Los Angeles, and Boston. Key areas of focus include Collector Cars, 20th/21st Century Art, Luxury, and Private Collections.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities Identify creative and compelling ways to introduce the Bonhams brand, auction sales and events to a new and broad audience, locally and internationally Establish strong relationships with Heads of Departments and Specialists to proactively develop new, innovative, and strategic media campaigns resulting in significant editorial coverage Conceptualize, research, and place stories in regional, national, and international media outlets, including print, online, broadcast, radio, and podcasts Generate stories that raise the profiles of individual departments and specialists Draft press releases and creative pitches that effectively reach the target audience Support Bonhams spokespeople with interview opportunities by preparing briefing notes, talking points, and providing overall guidance Handle announcements when senior executives or specialists are newly appointed, working with leadership to determine approach Establish and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts Support Global Press Team on crisis communications as necessary, with an understanding of cultural sensitivity, legal issues, and general awareness Write articles for the Bonhams Magazine (quarterly issue) on upcoming US sales Travel to Los Angeles and Boston for key events In addition to the tasks and responsibilities listed, you may be required to perform other duties as assigned by your manager.
Key Skills and Attributes
A bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field 5 years experience in related field, such as a PR agency, auction house or luxury brand Experience working with a range of media: print, online, broadcast, podcasts, etc. Proactive and collaborative with proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment Understanding of media landscape and strong relationships with journalists/reporters Ability to think outside the box and develop creative concepts to achieve press coverage Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust and unite key colleagues and external partners through demonstrated expertise.
