Are you a dynamic and creative librarian with a passion for working with teens? We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Librarian for our vibrant Teens Department at the Main Library Downtown. In this role, you'll design and deliver engaging programs, crafts, and activities that spark creativity, critical thinking, and a love of reading. You'll provide reader’s advisory, reference services, and innovative library experiences tailored to young adults. Building meaningful connections with teens is at the heart of this position, as you'll foster a welcoming space where they feel supported and inspired. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position, and will be required to work a mix of day, evening, and weekend hours.

Functions Specific to a Senior Teens Librarian

  • Provides positive customer service to all patrons with an emphasis on grades 7 through 12 and their families, educators, and other supporting persons as needed.
  • Uses knowledge of current research and theories of adolescent development to foster connections with teen patrons.
  • Plans, prepares, presents and evaluates teen programs, tours, and other activities. Provides research instruction to groups as needed.
  • Provides on-site visits, programs, and/or instruction in schools, juvenile correctional facilities, and other congregate settings. Represents the library at community and school events.
  • Assists patrons with finding materials and resources by providing bibliographic instructions; guidance on library catalog use, online and database resources; readers' advisory and reference.
  • Assists with collections activities. Recommends materials for removal. Recommends materials for collection enhancement. Notes shortages/overages in materials. Creates displays and guides to increase usage and awareness of library resources.
  • Assist patrons with use of library computers, mobile devices, wireless connections, wireless printing, specialized equipment, software, and applications.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of the library by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff. Acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Maintains awareness of current library trends and developments, especially as relates to youth services, through professional reading, conference attendance, participation in professional organizations, and other means of professional development.
  • Serves as person in charge when required.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science.
  • One (1) year of library operations experience; AND two (2) years of teen programming or educational experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • State of Indiana Public Librarian Certification (LC 1, 2, or 3).
  • Valid Driver's License.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation starts at $48K per year and up based on previous related and comparable experience.
